this may not be topic related but right now im trying the downgrade method on psp-hacks.com. i sussfully got my psp to version 2.0(jap) then i tried to downgrade it to 1.50 but certain error kept showing up and im almost 100% positive that i followed the guide perfectly.
heres the error messege: "the system cannot be updated. The update system program is not applicable for this system." (then it showed a bunch of numbers)
and when i look and check my firmware it says 1.00 but i still have all the features of 2.0 such as web browser..etc
can any expert explain this?

Why your version says it is 1.0 is because of the initial part of the downgrade that simply changes the version of the psp from 2.0 to 1.0 so that you can actually run the 1.5 upgrade.
Until you actually run the upgrade(from 1.0 to 1.5), your psp will show the version 1.0 but it is still a 2.0, thats why you have those features.
Read the downgrading portion of this thread and see if it helps you
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/284359
Also You may not have the correct 1.5 update Eboot, since your's is a JAP version. try to get a 1.5 JAP Eboot and do the upgrade.
The box said "Requires Windows 98 or better", so I installed Linux !!

well if u dont plan on downgrading ur psp then i suggest u to upgrade it. as to setting up ur internet just on in settings and scroll down to network connection. the default connection should work. all u have to do is upgrade ur psp and use the web browser
*edit*...still no luck finding the 1.50jap firmware :(

It really shouln't matter whether you use a jap or US eboot, they are the same. Try reseting the default settings and then try the eboot.
