How to Stop TMPGnc DVD Author From Stretching Movies?

I have several movies with subtitle that I made with DVD Author. When I play the DVD on my DVD player the movies stretch and the subtitles are no longer seen. The outrageous part is the smaller the TV, the more of the movie cuts off. Is there anyway to stop this?

This Has absolutly Nothing to do with "Tmpgenc DVD author" as TDA doesn"t touch the Video at all it simply authors it to DVD....

The Problem has to do with either the way the Source File was encoded to Mpeg-2/DVD format or your TV set or a Combination of Both....

All Regular TV sets have an area arround the Edges of the Screen that allways Gets Cut off, it is called the "Overscan Area" and it usually cuts off 10% to 20% of the Screen so if your subtitles are on the Bottom 10 to 20% of the screen then they will get Cut off....
That"s why the proper way to add subtitles to a DVD is to add them in the authoring stage were you can select were on the screen the Subs will be displayed and you can adjust the Size of them ect....

If these Subs are HardCoded into the Image then you will have to re-encode the source AVI file but while adding a Bigger Border arround the edges so it is the Border that gets Cut off not the Subtitles....

Tmpgenc Pluss/Express has settings for doing this while encodeing....

How do you make a Boarder using TMPGEnc Xpress? Is the Resize or Crop option in Filter.

If you go into the "Resize" Filter settings and set the 'Image position" to "Center(Custom Size)" and then in the Custom Size you put in the Resolution you want the Video to Be Minus the Borders....

The thing is to do this Properly so the Image doesn"t Look stretched or squished you have to do the Resizeing and the adding of Borders which Keeping the Source aspect ratio, so for me to tell you how to set it up properly i will have to Know what the Resolution of your AVI file is and I need to know if you are makeing a NTSC or a Pal DVD...

If you get back to me with this Info I will tell you how to set it up....

The Resolution of the AVI is 640x480
I'm Making a DVD NTSC

As you figured out, the movies subtitles are at the bottom of the Video I rather resize the movie then alter the subs.

I also want to know does TMPGEnc Xpress have to analyze before encoding? I've used Adobe Primere and it just encodes. IS there a option that turns that off. Just want to save some time.

Hi, Well with that resolution you are going to end up with more Borders on the Side than at the Bottom...So set the "Image position" to "Center(Custom Size)" and then set the "Custom Size" to "592x448" which should Put enough Borders on the Bottom so you can see the Subtitles.....

With most Other Files you can simply set the "Image position" to "Full Screen " and it should resize it properly accept with files with subs with the resolution at 640x480.....

PS: TMPGEnc Express has to Analize the File so it Can detect if the File is interlaced or Progressive and to analize the Field Order, If it didn"t do this then your Source settings would be wrong for the file you are encodeing....It only takes about 5-10 seconds to analize a 2 hour Video file so You should be able to wait this Long....

Wow! It takes your Computer 5-10 seconds analyze a 2 hour movie! It takes my computer 2 hours to analyze a 20 min movie! My computer has a Pentium 4 CPU 2.66Hz with 760MB DDR RAM! Converting goes very slow. I don't understand why.

I heard that the TASK MANAGER proccessor on Windows, with the running programs, slows up the computer. I'm still trying to figure out what unneccessory programs I need to remove. Microsoft wants you to pay for that information.

It takes 2 hours to Analize a 20 minute Movie?!?!?! and the encodeing time is On top of That?? That is Crazy and there is Definately something wrong.....

If you use "Tmpgenc Pluss" and you don"t use the "Wizard" then it will not analize the File but it still doesn"t answer why everything is Takeing so long on your System....

Maybe you should Try a Faster Encoder Like Maybe "Mainconcept Encoder" which is Several times as Fast as TMPGEnc and the quality is Just as Good .....

TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress actually took 2:08:45 to analyze & Encode the 20 min AVI video to DVD NSTC.

Right now, I'm using Adobe Preimere Pro with Mainconcept Encoder Pro with a Preimere Plug-in. It's converting faster and the size of the video is smaller then the TMPGEnc Xpress. Thanks for the suggestion.

is it possible to do the authoring with Nero instead of other program like TMPGEnc. i have the same problem too but its also the screen when im watching anime dub/sub.
