I have a problem with my Pioneer DVRA06U. It will not read/play a dvd that I burned on my standalone Sylvania DVR90VF. Yes, I finalized and the disc will play on other standalone players(Emerson & Sensory Science).

I was able to play the disc once using the DVRA06u and WMP10. Also I was able to save it to my hard drive, using DVD Decrypter(I did not save the log).

When I place the disc in my DVRA06u it just tries for awhile, then stops. Attempting to force WMP10, Nero Showtime, Power DVD or Win DVD and the message is 'drive not ready'. I open Windows Explorer and NOTHING is there. I opened dos, but kept receiving the same message 'drive not ready'. I placed two different discs, a cd data and a DVD movie and was able to see the list of files, so the problem is reading the self-burned DVD-R that I made and the disc that my husband bought.

Having the same problem with a DVD-Video disc that my husband bought from his Texas Holdem Tournament group. He played the disc a couple of times on our PC, but now it won't play on the PC. It will play on my standalone players.

Also, out of curiousity, I burned a short DVD-R on the Pioneer. The same problem.

I?ve done quite of bit of research. Could it be our hardware configuration? See the Nero Info Tool results that follows the log for the burn session. We?re running a dual boot, both XP and 98. The Pioneer is configured as the ?slave? on the Primary IDE channel. The master is the C drive which the file system is FAT32-which does not support files that are > 4gb.

Here?s the message from DVDdecrypter when I attempted to use it on one of the discs.

You should not have your Pioneer connected as a slave. Change it to Master on your Secondary IDE channel.

If your going to be dealing with DVD files, you should convert to NTFS. That will get rid of the 4GB limit.

Since it's a dual boot setup, should I install firmware and player/burner software on both XP and 98? If so, install 98 first?

hi as a guess i would check what the dye info is off the discs used!

it looks like its struggling to read this make/brand?

try another good reputable dye info as brand names mean less than dye info!

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

The firmware update should be seen by both drives so it would be necessary to instal it only on one. I would use the XP system.

The burning software will need to be installed on both systems. It will not matter which is first.

The important thing is to have your burner set up as a MASTER on the Secondary channel.
