In making backups with Shrink and other programs, subtitles on always on at the bottom of the screen with some DVD players. Am I doing something wrong when I make the backup copy?

Can you turn them off with the remote for your stand alone?

Some of the players will allow you to turn them off, while some will not. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong when I burned the backup copy of the movie...like maybe I should delete ALL subtitles when I make the backup.

I usually do get rid of all subtitles, I don't need them. Some subtitles are forced though.

In reauthor mode, double click on the main movie to get it to the left side (the left side is what you are keeping), right click on the title, go to set default streams, tick the box that reads display the following subpicture stream, and choose English (or the one that you want).

On some movies there is a forced subpicture stream such as the Japanese in the last samurai.
