what media are you burning? Also you might need to rebuild or clean your laser.

You also could try cleaning your Swap Magic DVD disc and the disc of the burned game.

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for your help so far. I'm not sure what media it is as the person I bought the games from has stuck labels all over them. The first thread said that Swap Magic wouldn't play back up games, is this true? I thought thats what it was for?? Also I've been searching this site and I've seen that PS2's don't seem to like certain kinds of media is this true too and can somone kindly explain to me?? Sorry for all the questions but I don't really understand all this technical talk. Thanks again.

No, backups do work with SM it's just that you might have bought backups and they were dodgey, btw selling backups on EBAY?!!! I could've sworn that's illegal, anyway i suggest you burn your own games instead of buying from the dodgey dealers.
edit--
I'll leave the technical bit to one of the others at the mo, gotta go for exam now.

Thanks, you have all been really helpful and its nice to actually find a site where you can ask a question that might seem so trivial to you guys and not get loads of answers by smarta**es telling you how stupid you are...very nice to see!!
Darkhadou....I've been thinking of burning my own games because of the problems I've been having but I'm unsure of I need to get started. Could you take a few minutes of your time and tell me what I would need?
At the moment I've just got a PC with a CD-RW.
I realise this might be a different thread for a different part of this site and I may get my paws slapped but I'm a noob and I'm not sure where else to post this. Thanks in advance.

I'm back, turns out exam is in another 3 hours time man... Ok u need a DVD burner, any IMO is good as long as it says it can burn DL and both DVD-R/+RW. Once you got one fit it into your computer. Then install any software IF it came with any. You're gonna need a burning tool, I use Nero. And your gonna need blank DVD media +R or -R now RWs or RAMS. And basically jus rip your using your burning tool, and then take out game from ur burner and insert new blank media- don't go for unbranded DVDs try finisng Verbatims, Sony and Taiyo Yudens those are best. Burn you ripped image ontothe balnk dvd and then use your swap magic disc as you would. If you want this in full detail then PM me once you gt the hardware you need, I'll take you through it step by step.

Thanks for that. One more thing if you don't mind. I've been looking at different burners on the net and they're all saying things like x4/x8 etc. I know thats something to do with the speed they burn the disc at (I think). Can you recommend which one I should go for?

Ok when gettin burners, try getting the highest you can. When getting the DVD Media, I recommend you burn PS2 games at 2x speed. But I doubt ur gonna find that on media so go for 4X. All my DVDs are 4x but I burn at 2x to make sure the data has been thoroughly burnt and no skipping. Hope that answered your question.

Thanks for that. This will be the last question...I promise and then you can go and cram for the exam.
When you say the 'highest possible' for the burner, do you mean the highest number eg. x8 or the lowest number eg. x4. This may sound silly to you but as you now can see, I really meant it when I said I wasn't technical in anyway lol!

ok your PS2 has a fliptop but is it a fliptop you installed? or is it a slim ps2 fliptop?

If it's a fliptop u installed it should work... If you have a PSTWO (SLIM) with a the factory fliptop and you haven't moded the fliptop with Slim tools etc etc then when you pop the lid it knows the ps2 is open thenfore not reading the backup/imports correctly...

He/ she said it was the bulky one, obviously not being the slimline then. And yEs i meant highest number in burning speed e.g. 8X, 16X etc etc.
By the look of your PS2 serial number im guessing your in the UK, try http://www.lowestonweb.com for a good OEM Sony DVD burner :P

Darkahou - Thanks for all your help. I'm going to get myself sorted with a dvd burner and Nero, just like you said. I might hold you getting a step by step guide from you when I've got everything sorted, so I hope you don't mind.
Thanks for all your help, I'll be in contact soon.
