I just bought an xbox for my son. It is soft modded, to be able to play backed up games.

Totally new to this, but I connected to it by ftp with my computer, and used Qwix to create an iso image of need for speed most wanted.
The image is called nfs and is 2,976,192kb in size

I then used dvd decrypter to burn it to a DVD-R

When I try to play the game, the xbox recognized it as a data disc, not a game disc and wouldn't play it.

Anybody know what I have done wrong?

Thanks!

that is odd, i used about the same method and mine worked just fine.
If you burned the ISO using the ISO Write on DVD Decrypter then it should have worked as long as the ISO was made correctly.
what brand of DVD was it and what speed
and what speed did you burn it at.

It was a DVD-R by Memorex.
The speed I chose was 2.4, but it may have defaulted to 4x

Do you think the brand of DVD could be the problem?

And was your image the same file size as mine?

Thanks for trying to help a newbie out!

i will check my image size when i get home, think i still have them all on my PC. But is this NFS Most Wanted? that is the only one i have for the Xbox
Memorex are the absolute works brand for making games
yes media can make all the difference in the world.
Try Philips,Taiyo Yuden,Ritek,TDK,Verbatim
those are the most widely used.
I suggest DVD-R 8X speed burned at 4X
I use the Philips myself.
Also make sure that your DVD burner has the latest firmware available for your model. That helps with media compatibility

Yes, it's need for speed most wanted.

I think I am going to end my frustartion....going to have the xbox modded with a chip and a 120gb hard drive, so I can store the games right on the drive.

Hopefully it will work a lot better :-)

Try extracting the iso, and burn the files directly to the disc using Nero. I think it is great becuase it has an option for force compatibility for xbox games. Burn the disc as a UDF. It works great and all the time for me.

I too made a copy of the game only.Maybe that was my error.

Was I supposed to copy some other files as well?I enede up with an iso labelled nfs...and that is what I burned to a disc.

What happened to me was when i ripped the files from the disk i got the
default.xbe dashupdate.xbe update.xbe, files then a folder with all the game files in when i made the iso with craxtion i directed it to the folder with the game files in not the folder that contained the 3 .xbe files and folder with the game files, hats where i went wrong and was kicking my self for the easy mistake i made hope it makes sence:)
