I have recently purchased Giga Multispeed Master
DVD-R media. It says Made in Taiwan. It also says 1x-4x.
Anyone heard of them?
I bought them because they were cheap (10 pcs spindle box
for Ł2) and I was suprised to see the excellent quality of
both video and audio.

welcome welcome~ :)
actually, i have heard of them...but, at least from YOUR experiences, you probably have gotten lucky as the manufacturers for this particular media are NOT GOOD, with only 1 or 2 exceptions~ :)
here is what you could have possibly gotten:
Gigamaster DVD-R 4.7GB AN31........ 4x (crappy)
Gigamaster DVD-R 4.7GB AN32........ 4x (equally crappy)
Gigamaster DVD-R 4.7GB INFODISC-R01 4x (not good i'm afraid)
Gigamaster DVD-R 4.7GB LONGTEN 001. 4x (woah..not good)
Gigamaster DVD-R 4.7GB RITEKG04.... 4x (the ONLY good one out of these that is decent)
Gigamaster DVD-R 4.7GB SKC Co.,Ltd. 4x (not good again)
you can easily check which one you got by using a dvdidentifier program, i'm HOPING for YOUR sake, you got the Ritek GO4s... :)

good luck

It's SKC Co. Ltd.
I can't say that it's bad.

Thanks guys for advice.
I just ripped Toy Story 2 SE (Region 1 release) and burned it
with Gigamaster and I was suprised to see how video quality is
simply great.
What about Traxdata? Any good?

If you want to give those gigamaster dvds a good test, try re-ripping one of the backups that you say look good.
I can burn some crappy media like cmags and AML-002=play perfect on my stand alone, but they will be harder to re-rip if the time ever comes to make extra copies in the future.I've got the PI/PO scans to prove it.
Just because it looks great-picture wise, doen't mean it's a very good backup. Those backups may contain many little errors on them. Stand alones may be able to get through them, unless they are the picky players. Those picky players will definitely have a harder time reading those backups.
Try scanning them with dvdinfopro. It's got a free version, and download the version with adverts:

Traxdata?
Here's some of their MID codes and they look suprisingly pretty good:
Traxdata DVD+R 2.4x (RITEK R01)
Traxdata DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
Traxdata DVD+R 8x (RITEK R03)
Traxdata DVD+R DL 2.4X (RITEKD01)
Traxdata DVD+RW 2.4x (RICOHJPNW01)
Traxdata DVD-R 1x (RITEKG03....)
Traxdata DVD-R 4x (RITEKG04....)
Traxdata DVD-R 8x (RITEK G05)
Traxdata DVD-RW 1x (RITEK000V11A
If they keep those manufacturers, then you'll be ok.I really like Riteks and ricohs are pretty decent.
But like most brands of media, they can switch to a cheaper manufacturer in a heartbeat.
I'd take those over gigamaster if that's the only choices I had!

I didn't know that.

Which media do you prefer? Your top 5. Something that will
work with BenQ and not too expensive.
I am only asking for some advice as I am new to ripping and burning
stuff.

I just got back from a cousin of mine who just started backing up dvds. He's got a very similar pc to mine-in my sig,but his lightscribe is made by HSST or something like that.
His player played his backups ok,so he gave me one to test and he used Yuden000-T02 media. That was the worst PI/PO scan I have ever seen. I will try to re-rip it,but I may likely get a big fat CRC error, usually making them un-rippable.
I took one of mine over there,he had no trouble ripping it.

What model# you got?
I've got 2 of the 1620s and one 1640 and they will burn anything I slap in them. They do favor the Plus format-My stand alones tell me that. The dash gives my stand alone players fits off the benqs.
Running scans on their backups with various MID codes and burn speeds are an effective way to burn.
Benq: Booktyping capability.Nero will booktype my 1620s and Q-suite 2.0 booktypes my 1640 with the plus format only. This booktyping helps fool those players into recognizing my backups as dvd-roms.That's the more universal format. That's a very big asset for stand alone compatability.
Here's my list, but all of these have over a 99.5% success rate and 95% compatability rate, and they are all plus format:
1) Japanese Fuji +8x: Yuden000-T02
2) Japanese Sony +8x: Yuden000-T02
3) Japanese maxell +8x: Maxell-002-00
4) Verbatim +8x
5) Ritek-R03: These are the taiwanese maxell +8x and Office Depot +8x.
I have no issues with any of those MID codes. Only 5 coasters in the last 13 months, well over 2000+ burns. 3 of them were playback coasters.
I do love my Benqs!
