when i try to write to a disc i get a message power calibration failure

Power callibration can be caused by numerous things, your firmware is not up to date, you are using crappy media, your lens is dirty, you have a drive conflict, you are trying to burn too fast, or your burner is just plain going bad. What brand media are you using, how fast are you burning, have you updated your firmware? Open Decrypter and then the Tools tab, Drive and Capabilities. Post the info

is this of any help TDKDVDRW1616N Also i only use verbitim discs so it is not a disc prob and i burnt at 4x

thank you for your response. I am at present trying to run the 2.7a update but it seems to get to 76% and stays at that.

So it changed then? If so you can try burning with this or you can try the update to the 2.7A.

Do not know why it will not let you update, but if you are showing 2.79 that is the closest you will get. Here is some more info on power callibration errors. You can try the other fixes if they do not work, you may be looking at a new drive. Sorry I know this is not good news.
