Your DMA looks good. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers did you check both your Primary and Secondary channels? Assuming your DMA is OK...
How much memory do you have, and how much free disk space is on your hard drive? Right click My Computer, properties to check your memory. In Windows Explorer right click your C drive to check free
disk space.

what are your system specs???
processor, ram, free drive space and any other specs you believe may be of importance!
dvddecrypter was probably using the same sata path as another device that is the only way the buffer will react while in file mode
which it sounds like because of your device manger settings if your drive is the primary then >>>don't use the secondary at all<<< and vice versa!
try using again and not doing anything while you decrypt ie..make sure all virus software is disabled, go offline, don't even look at it! til it play's you it's little jingle!
then use shrink to encode should be faster, freer(is that a word??)and better quality!
I'm not actually sure of the gold edition of dvd fab's encode times but they are dependant on your system so there may be nothing wrong w/ it! but like I said for transcoding shrink has yet to be bested in my book!

Hi Moonrocks,
504mb of ram, is that the memory. With regards to free space, I have over 40gb from 80gb left

your system specs are fine for encoding! you dma (direct memory access) is set!
have you tried decrypter in the manner that I mentioned?

Well, your memory and drive space is enough so it shouldn't be slowing you down to 4 hours to rip. As L8ter says, make sure all virus software is off, don't do anything else, while you rip. I've never used DVD Fab Gold, but I have used the free Express version, but I just can't imagine it would take 4 hours to rip a DVD.
I'd probably go back to Decrypter and see if you can get that running. It's such a good ripper. Otherwise, try the Express version of DVD Fab. At this point I'm just not sure what's causing your problem.

Thanks guys for all your help. I just got DVDFab Express so I'll see how that is. I've also just found that Bearshare has a adware that installs with it called "whenusave". I tryed getting rid of that and Icouldn't because it would delete Bearshare. I think I might go to Toy's R Us here in Sunny England and get a kids Leapfrog Laptop age's 4-9 years, that should be quicker and easier

also copy/paste your drive info from dvddecrypter and I will searhc for you a region free firmware alot of drives have patched firmware to make your drive region free!

your write I'm having trouble finding any listed firmware for your drive! seems sony has quit using it and there firmware is the only one that is compatable! everything I read said that cross flashing will destroy this drive!
have you checked the vaio update most vaio's have a update Icon that pop's up every time you start-up there will be an icon in the tool bar that will take you to an update in the sony support site just for your model lap-top! latest update is the last you will get!
on the other topic I'm guessing you are running a 1.8ghz or similar so your times are not as bad as they seem close to normal!
you can try to get decrypter shrink combo going or try dvdfabdecrypter w/ shrink I'm sure your times will come down w/ shrink google for dvdfabdecrypter !

I used to B**** about the vhs how they would stretch and distort picture in about a year or so!
now that I have two little munchkins running around and dvd's I'm lucky if a dvd see's next month!

Well, it looks like you're back to the original problem. Seems it's complainig that the region code on the disc isn't matching your DVD drive's region.
Try this, open DVD Decrypter, in Tools, Settings, General, RCE protection region set the region to 1 (that's what your drive is). Make sure "remove IFO/BUP RCE protection" is selected. Then try to rip again.

Alright Mate I'll try that. At the moment I'm having a go with DVDFAB Gold. When thats finished I'll give it a try. Its been running now for about 30 mins and its not even a quarter of the way. I'll let you know how I got on tomorrow as its bloody 5am over here, time for bed. Cheers for all your help

Ran DVDFAB Gold and it copied files to hardrive. I then copied to DVD- and placed in dvd player. The player recognised that there was a dvd in there and played, the only problem was there was no picture or sound. There was 1hr46min on the disc, I don't understand why this is. I then tryed DVDFab Express which said time remaining to rip over 500 mins (8hrs+). I have no idea what I'm doing wrong

I'm not sure what is going on w/ the all inclusive version of fabgold/express maybe a user of that one will come along w/ a setting or something!
does the disk play in your p.c. and what is displayed when viewing the content's of the fab disk when looking in my computer ie..what format,file type is shown?
this was found at the bottom of the DVD Region+CSS Freeinfo page so it' looks as if son't has gone to great links to make sure your drive is not unlockable

ohmss,
The time-consuming ripping/burning is almost assurdly a DMA problem. Moonrocks asked, on checking if DMA is enabled on both Primary and Secondary channels, and you never responded? I believe the info you gave was for your Primary channels, which normally are your hard drives.
Please go check both channels, and report back.

I've gone into Device Manager, then clicked on IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS. Then I clicked Primary IDE CHANNEL. Now what am I looking for? Sorry Guys for being a pain

You mean to check for DMA, I hope?
If so,
1. go to Device Manager
2. select the + sign on IDE ATA/ATAPI ADAPTERS
3. double click on Secondary IDE Controller
4. select tab that says Advance Settings
5. inform us what it says in "Current Transfer Mode" in both Device 0 and Device 1

It doesn't say secondry IDE controller, it only has Primary IDE Channel.

I also checked my CPU Usage, that's hovering between 5 - 15%, that doesn't seem very good
