Quote: It doesn't say secondry IDE controller, it only has Primary IDE Channel.
Based on that, you only have one harddisk and one dvd drive, correct?
And they are on the same controller, yikes. You need to get another cable, and place your dvd burner on the other controller (secondary). That should speed up your ripping/burning speed, substantially. I don't remember rather or not you are running on a laptop, if not, I would purchase a DVD-ROM drive and place it on the secondary controller with your burner This will make ripping/burning much easier with no interruptions, depending on what software you are using.

Hi Rich, Yes I am running on a Laptop, Sony Vaio VGNFS640/W. I don't know if you know anything about this particular model, I've been told by people that its a nice piece of gear, but I don't know.

Well, I am at a loss. Running your DVD drive on the 2nd controller would help, but your outlandish rip/burn times should not be that high, regardless.
Sorry,
Rich

Hi Rich, I just finished coping a disc with DVDFAB and then burnt with Nero. Project was a failure right at the bloody end and gave me this log. Do you understand any of it? does it tell you anything about my drive?

Actually, that media is not the best of media to use. Taiyo Yuden , Verbatium, MAXELL made in Japan, to name a few are amongst the best.

@ ohmss, I would remove the serial number from your log if I were you. Otherwise someone else could copy & paste it into their huge collection of Nero serial numbers! Those people do not buy Nero, they use other peoples' numbers!
For which they should get their bottom spanked!
It starts with IC 83......., right at the top of the log!
PS, Ta!

ohmss,
Not sure who you were directing your question to, but in regards to your region problem, check out this link, they talk about DVDIdpro fixing it. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101267
Actually, some people fixed their problem by purchasing a different drive that was more accomdating to region codes.
Good luck,
Rich

when terminating apps was refferenced he is saying not to multitask!
do not have your anti virus enabled while burning shut down everything in the tool box!
open up your task manager and shut down all applications! (not processes, applications) this will free up some of that memory which is very much needed!
slow it down no more than 4x!
also everything points me to believe there is a hardware conflict of some wires crossed or something!

Thanks guys, you have all been more then helpful. Back to my player being completely locked to Region 1 and not being able to play Region 2 dvd's. I just ran DVD43 to atleast be able to watch region 2 if I can't burn them. It showed the smiley face I guess its suppose to and stated dvd in the drive but still wouldn't play the region 2 disc. I think I'll get a new pc, bloody things only 6 months old and can't do anything. Well it switches on

Gosh ohmss, you do not need to replace your laptop, just replace the DVD burner, or get an external burner, but make sure it does not inhibit region code changes, and make sure it can booktype to DVD-ROM.
Actually, you could purchase an external case for about $20-$30, and get a Benq 1640 burner (about $40) that will do all of these requirements.
Good luck,
Rich

Rich, I think its got to be because the drive is completely locked to Region 1. If I had the option still of changing the Region I bet all the software I have been ateempting to use, Decrypter, DVD43 etc would probably work. What do you think, because of the locked drive?

Mashita UJ - 840D DVD/CD Rom
I presume the Mashita is the Burner but whats the Hitachi? Like I said before Guys, I am not computer literate and sooooo new to this. Sorry

The Hitachi_ DK23FA-80 is your harddrive, and unfortunately the MATSHITA burners, I have recently found out, have many problems with them, including your problem concerning region codes. That link above from cdfreaks, if you didn't read it, says AnyDVD does not work on that drive, but DVDinfpro, someone says fixed his region problem. So maybe your should try it, and he says to get the free version.
Sorry about your problem,
Rich

From viewing the DVDInfoPro homepage it looks like DVDInfoPro just gives you all the stats on your drive, read/write capabilities, region changes left etc., similar to Nero Info Tool. Seems like a nice app, but I don't see how it could get around the region problem of your drive. I've never used it so I can't say for sure what it's capable of.
However, after reading the cdfreaks link a few posts earlier I wouldn't be optimistic of any software workaround for your region problem. One of the developers from Slysoft gives a pretty grim picture of the Matshita drive. If it was me, I'd take sytyguy's advice and get another burner.

ohmss,
Did a little research over at cdfreaks, and the general consensus is slimtype(for laptops) burners are crap, so I would suggest to you to get an external USB DVD burner.
BTW, found a pretty good external burner, LG GSA-5163B.
And it supports bitsetting and can write DVD+R and DVD+R9 DL media with DVD-ROM book type. CDfreaks gave it their ?Editors choice?.
No matter what drive you get, make sure you get quality media, and never burn at the highest rated speed, in fact, burn at 4X, although I burn at 8X, at all times, successfully. OH, $80US, give or take.
HTH,
Rich
Good luck,

Hi Guys, As you all know, I've been unable to copy Region 2 DVD'S on my Laptop because the drive is completely locked to Region 1, well so we believe this is the reason. Even with the apparently great DVD Decryptor I can't do it. I just read a thread about what software is needed to rip and it stated the following software you need.
DVD Decrypter 3.1.0.0 or higher
IFOEdit
DVD Shrink
VobBlanker
FixVTS
All I have is Decryptor and Shrink, could this be the reason why I can't copy because I don't have any of the other software above. I hope it is
