Not necessarily, the real problem is your MATSHITA burner. It is a crappy drive, so sorry, but that is the consensus over at CDfreaks, including one of the developers from Slysoft (ANYDVD, which can also change the region code, as I recall).

Take the advice of others,

Rich

all of the above mentioned software (anydvd,DVD43,decrypter)will ttake the region protection off of a file on your p.c.!
this way any disk's burned from that file will be! completely region free no limit's on where you can watch you movie(except maybe under water :-} )

your problem is getting your drive which is locked, we have figured out it is locked down harder than alcatraz! to read the dvd which hasn't had the region protection removed!

hmmm I would reccomend that you
1 buy a new drive incase you plan on buying movies from other countries all the time!

2 get a friend to let you use/patch his drive! so that it's region free or use one of his four region changes!

3 find creative way to acquire a region1 copy of this movie!

Hi All, If you remember I couldn't use Decryptor to copy Region 2 dvds. Well I'd thought I would try and copy one of my Region 1 dvd's to see if it wasn't the software. Well it copied the Region 1 no problem and stored it on my Hardrive although again I have another issue. The file has a Record now Icon so when clicked on it automatically goe's there to burn but is far to big to fit to my 4.7 DVD-R. I have tryed opening Shrink and open files but it can't locate it under my videos. What to do?

ohmss,

No Mate, the file has been stored under "My Videos" with a
"Record Now" icon. When clicked on it doesn't play it automatically goe's to burn with "Record Now". Its too big though for 4.7 DVD-R, so I tryed running it through Shrink, but when I clicked on open files it doesn't display the file under My Videos

When you select files and you go the place where they were filed, does it say "VIDEO_TS"? That's what it should say if when you ripped it with DVD Decrypter using File Mode. If it does say "Video_TS", then in Shrink you would double click on it.

Hi Sytyguy, I think I got Decryptor to work, Cheers. Earlier on in this thread (back in 1990 when I started it) you said to purchase a new external burner, LG GSA-5163B around $80. I"m going to purchase this over the net and have it delivered here in Sunny England because if I purchase one over here I would probably pay 80 pound ($140). This is for sure a good one? and thats all I need to order right?

Hey I also noticed that it said ohmss Junior Member as apposed to Newbie, cool. See it doe's pay to keep these threads running for months. Now people might ask me for advise (Idiots)

O.k, thought everything was o.k with using Decryptor with a region 2 dvd. Burnt it and saved to Hardive and I then open files on Shrink and sent Video TS. It stated analysing up to 10 % then said the following

DVD Shrink encounted an error and cannot continue
Failed to read file "C:\Texas_chain_saw\video_ts\vts_01_1.vob"

Invalid access to memory location

What happened here folks?

When you ripped with Decrypter in File mode did you have All files selected? Sometimes you can have a problem otherwise. Also, one thing to try with Shrink is disabling the video preview.

Hi Moonrocks, Turned of preview and it worked fine. Now to get the new burner so I can actually copy Region 2, the whole reason behind this thread. Least I know Decryptor works. Cheers Mate

ohmss,

I thought you were looking for an external drive, the LG GSA-4165B is not an external burner?

Yep, that was cute, but for a moment I really thought we had a hillbilly in our midst(and not that we don't). I had to do a search on you nickname to see for sure you were joking.....or not?

BTW, I didn't understand hardly a word you wrote.....you might want to practice on improving that, lol.

Best regards,

Rich

hi ohmss

I also had probs with my dvd drive being locked down to one region. The guys on Afterdawn recommended to me to try DVD & CSS RegionFree. It is worth a try - you get to try b4 you buy for 30 days. I haven't looked back since and can now buy any region dvd and then rework the disc to make it region free so can be used in any dvd player in the house. Not saying it will solve all the problems you have mentioned but it may be worth trying to see if it helps with your playback probs. I use dvdshrink and DVD Decrypter and have not had any probs with this.

kat123,

He's got a different problem, in so much his drive will NOT do region free even with the best of software out there, including AnyDVD, which is perhaps the very best in doing this function.....if you had read this entire thread..............

Regards,

Rich

Hi Mate, I thought I'd try DVDIdle. I clicked on DVD info and it read the following.

The Drive E:\has Region protection
Drive Region code:1
User changes left:0
Vender resets left:4
The Disc (From_Hell) has CSS protection
Disc Region code: 2,4

Why do these kind of Softwares state they can Region free locked drives. Also, what doe's it mean by Vendor changes left? Cheers Guys

I am not familiar with that software, so I could only guess what that means, and would probably be incorrect.

Maybe rick5446, the hillbilly from who knows where can answer that, hopefully in English.J/K

ohmss, I seriously doubt you will ever find software to free up your drive. Don't waste any more of your time on that. As for Vendor changes...

There are two categories of region changes possible on a DVD drive, User and Vendor. User changes are easy, you yourself can do them, you've got 5 and then you're done. Vendor changes allow the manufacturer of a drive to reset the User counter back to 5. However, not every drive manufacturer even enables the Vendor changes option for their drives. And even if they do, good luck getting them to do it for you.

I don't know for sure, so I'll be cautious how I word it, but I've never heard of anyone being able to hack their way past the "Vendor changes" feature. The only approach in that situation would be to install a hacked firmware for the drive, which, apparently, none exists for the Matsushita drive.

According to the Slysoft team, and I'd trust their judgement if I were you, the technique that all software solutions rely on to enable a drive to behave in a region free manner is to read the "title key" when a region mismatched disc is inserted in the drive. Most drives allow this info to be read. Matsushita drives apparently are unique in not providing this information.

Quoting a Slysoft Developer: "No other drive behaves this way, only Matsushita (Panasonic) drives." Consequently, NO software, as in "NONE", "Not Any", can free up the region lock on your Matsushtia drive.

ohmss, if I were you I would give up the ghost on this. You need a new DVD drive.
