Hi all,

Im new to all this backup stuff so my knowledge isnt very good at all. After reading the forums here i downloaded DVD Shrink and bought CloneDVD and AnyDVD and ive been backing up dvds for about a month with no problems. The other day i tried to back up a dvd on clone DVD and a message came up "Burn process failed could be bad media". The thing is ive been using these discs with no problem at all (imjet dvd-r) and ive opened a different packet and they dont work either. Ive tried to back up using DVDShrink and CloneDVD and in both cases it copies the Dvd fine to the temp folder but wont burn. I tried to backup my Lee Evens xl tour dvd and that failed but i can watch it until about an hour into it then it freezes. So is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem? If so just bare in mind im a beginer but im not lazy if you can point me in the right direction ill try to sort it myself.

Thanx alot for taking the time to read my post.

P.s this is the log from the last burn that failed on DVDShrink.

That's probably your issue.

Disc Manufacturer: TYG02

I'm skeptical about those being real taiyo yuden media.. Taiyo yuden doesn't make media for the generic brands.Lots of fakes are out there. They can fake that Ty-g02 code, but they can't fake the quality results.

Look at the bottom dye side of those backups. Look for a code on the inner dye portion-towards the center hub.You should get a code like:
GG000142 or GD000164 or something like that.

Post back that code,if it has it.It has to have 2 letters and 6 digits.

Also please edit out your serial number at the top of the log starting with 1A20.Use the pencil/note pad in the top right corner of your post to edit that out.

Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB)

Too much data going on your blank. You are burning to the very outer edge of the blank disc. Try to reduce the backup target to 4360 mbs.Not sure how to do it in clonedvd, but dvd shrink is easy:
Open shrink
Edit
Preferences
Click on dvd-5/scroll till custom/enter 4300/OK

That'll take care of issues on then end of your backups.Get some trustworthy media, and take it up to 4360 mbs.

Burn process started at 12x (16,620 KB/s)

Definetely slow down that burn speed to 4x. Again,better-trustworthy media then you can speed her up to 8x.

You burned them ok,and now having problems. Unless your burn speed accidentally got changed and you didn't know it,then probably media issue.Media quality can vary in the middle of a spindle or switching spindles. The true taiyo yuden and verbatim are the most trusted names in media.

What is wrong with posting that is it privet information?

There is no code on the bottom of the disc i bought them from ebay (uk) for £27 so i dont think they are the best media in the world but they did work befor.

Ive changed the amount of data like you said hopfully that will help me as ive noticed somtimes the burn doesnt fail untill about 85%.

Posting your SN leaves it open for someone else to borrow it and use it for free. You can set your burn speed in Shrink like this

Updating your fw will not affect AnyDVD, but will allow your burner to recognize newer media, and burn mor optimally.

Cheers i burned using shrink at 4x and it worked fine i also lowered to 4300. I tried again with CloneDVD and forgot to reduce the speed and it failed. I tried again at 4x and it burned straight off! Its strange because ive been burning at 12x for the last 50 or so backups ive done and ive had no probs but saying that i have just opened 2 new cakes of dvd's. Even though this worked do you think i should update my firmware and Nero still?

Cheers thanx for all your help

Updating Nero would be a good thing, as for your fimware that is your decision. As I stated fw helps your burner to do its job, companies keep releasing updates, if there was no need for them they wouldn't bother, and yours is rather old. As far as burning at 12x that is a speed that will give you more errors. A slower rate usually produces less. It is best to burn at half of the recommended speed on the DVD.

If a lot of those issues are at the 85% area, then reducing that backup target did the trick.SLowing it down also helps. This is what happens with poor quality media.

If you got them off of Ebay and no code: Definitely fakes. You've been suckered/duped/hornswaggled!

Don't put anything important on them, they may not last very long.

Updating Nero: I just use the plain old OEM version 6.0.0.21b on 2 of my machines and suite2 on another. No problems. Only problem I had was after updating the Nero 1 time.
If you update it:
Do not download the INCD packet.
Use Nero cleantool6 to completely remove all remnants of Nero off your pc.Then download it.

Sorry i wasnt very clear in my post. I downloaded Nero and installed the patch no probs. I downloaded the firmware for my pioneer dvr-110 drive and thats whats giving me the error message "Hardware revision not matched".

Sorry for the confusion my fault. :0

Just a note: I always make sure i have the most recent firmware for the burner and if anything goes wrong after burning for such a long time just reflash it. Most cases it should fix it right up.

I never trusted burning at anything higher than 4X.I use Ritek Ridata 8x DVD-R disc but only burn at 4X and never had any glitches or stops.

What do you mean by reflash it?
