So I'm having real problems with WinAVI 6.3 and I wondered if anyone could help!

After trying literally half a dozen programs to convert an AVI to DVD I finally found that WinAVI works. But the problem is that if I convert with all the default settings, or the recommended settings from a guide on a couple of reputable backup websites, the picture has been stretched from widescreen to fullscreen. It's not that it's just enlarged the picture like a pan&scan, it's actually stretched up.

But the wierd thing is that if I play the DVD in my computer, it plays fine. But if I play it on any standalone DVD, it's stretched.

One thing I have noticed is that the preview window when encoding is the same as my output on the TV, so the only method I have worked out to get my picture the same is to open the AVI and play it fullscreen in a video player, literally mark the top and bottom of the picture on the side of my monitor with a pencil, and then manually use the scale picture setting in WinAvi to adjust the percentage until the picture I get in the preview window matches the pencil marks on the side of the monitor. Obviously that's not an ideal solution, plus it's very time consuming.

I'm going mad here trying to work it out, does anyone have any suggestion why this might be happening?
