Ok here is my problem. when ever i run DVDCloner 3 or Cucusoft Dvd to Ipod suit. both wich copy dvds onto my computer. it just restarts. going black then to a quick blue screen with alot of white writing it blinks to that screen to quick to read what it says though. then it comes back on and displays the serius system error box asking to send report and all that. I had this problem once before when i would play f.e.a.r. on my computer i read some forums they said it could be my memory so i had 2 sticks took turns running them one had a problem when it was used other didnt. until now i have this problem. i have copyied maybe around 3 dvds to my computer before this start hapening all of a sudden.

my setup

500W PSU
asus p4p800-e deluxe (i believe)
3.2 ghz pentium 4
1 250 GB hard drive eide
1 100 GB hard drive eide
1 sony dvd read/cd writer
1 sony dvd reader and burner
ATI 750xpro graphics card (i believe)
1 512mb kbyte memory stick
2 rear fans
2 front
1 side
1 top
2 in PSU

I have alot of fans in there and i have asus probe that tells me my cpu temp and that is always below 60 C. so i do not think it is over heating. The power supply was from a fairly good company cant remember the name at the moment sorry so i dont think it is that. and this only hapens when i try to do DVD stuff. i can run video games on it no problem and some have a pretty high demands not sure what it could be. so any suggestions would be apreciated.

thanks
josh

There are lots of things that could cause the problem.

Number one would be over-heating. Does your MB have a sensor that you could monitor the temp with? Your CPU, if going to 60C is getting very warm.

Other things that could be the cause is RAM and your graphics card. Your CPU and MB seem to me new, so I don't think that would be the reason. Are all your MB dirvers up to date?

Do you have your EIDE drives connected to a EIDE card or connected to the Primary IDE channel?

Yes i have the asus probe software running on my computer and the temp never gos above abaut 50 idles on 45 it seems. Its all pretty much new stuff. The DVD drive is conected direct to the motherboard eide conections. It may be my ram but i am not sure. also is there a way i can be short circuting or burning out my ram. I had read on another forum someone could change there ram slot voltage could mine be to high or low or something. sorry im rather new to this stuff. thanks for helping me out.

Does the Asus Probe show your voltages? If so, post them. Post all the readings of the software and maybe I can spot something.

As for short circuits, that would be a MB problem. Since it does work with other things (?) I would assume it's OK.

Ok this is what the probe offers and its current readings

TEMP MONITOR

CPU 46c
Mobo 23c

VOLTAGE MONITOR

+12V 12.463
+5V 5.053
+3.3V 3.184
Vcore 1.408

FAN MONITOR

CPU Fan 2721rpm

thats all that the probe tells me. I just ran a Memtest on it well i think i ran it correctly i just let it run for abaut 5 hours then i read some place that it just keeps going until you tell it to stop so stopped it after i think abaut 5.5 hours. and it had reported no errors in that time. hopefully i used it corectly but i dont know for sure. I still have no idea what in the world this could be. also is there any drivers or something else that could help fix the problem. that i should look up or for. i believe my DVD drive is the sony 720 something sorry i got it awhile ago. thanks again for giving me a hand with this thing.

All the readings you posted are fine. Were these idle (nothing running) readiings? Try running one of the DVD programs and see if the readings drop.

Do you know how to run System File Checker?

Have you tried any other DVD rippers? Do you get the same thing?

Thought of something else.

When that blue screen appears, there is a file written to the HD. It's MEMORY.DMP . Do a search and find it on your system. Open it with Notepad and copy the results.

There are some virus that will cause this as well make sure system is clean. Update antivirus and run. I also like Hijackthis but be carefull with this one, you need to be sure what your deleting with this one. Also you mentioned memory not sure how tight your running your memory timings but you may want to loosen them up abit.

Good Luck

Dolpin2 I dont think i can run the dvd software and see because it just dies on me before i can see the readings im pretty sure i will give it a try though. I dont know how to run the filechecker though im gonna search to see if theres someplace that can tell me how. I also have a software that rips them to ipod files. the system restarts with that also. I believe that just my OS seems to be restarting as the computer stays powered like all my fans and stuff just like when the computer is restarted. just the OS starts over on me, not sure if this helps at all but i just noticed it last time it hapend. I have searched 3 times now for the memory.dmp file and no luck anywhere on the computer. Also i am not sure if its the blue screen of death or not. It blinks on to fast to see what any of it says to me.

Spacedust i dont think it is a virus. The computers pretty much brand new so i dont know how one would get on there and i have only been on the net a few times. although i will run all my virus scans a few times just to make sure.

thanks to both of you.
