Firstly, apologies for posting this here as it's not actually a DVD decrypter forum, but I can't actually work out where else to post it and I've noticed it mentioned a lot here.

Also, DVD decrypter is a common precursor to using DVD Shrink.

Anyways, the question.

I have the latest version of DVD Decryptor, but I'm thinking of getting a new drive. What I'm wondering is what drives will it work with, since most of the ones on sale now were introduced after development stopped.

Any clues would be much appreciated.

I've been using BenQ 1640 for about 2 months, no problems with DvdD.

DVDdecrytper is a software app that will work with your new drive without a problem, as long as your new drive will work.

Should not be an issue. Has never been for me.

Cheers.

Actually, you are in the wrong forum, since DVD Decrypter is not just, as you say, a precursor to DVD Shrink. If your question pertained to specific use with DVD Shrink, then you'd be in the right place. DVD Decrypter can be used for decryption with a large number of transcoding and encoding software programs. DVD R for Newbies would have been more appropriate. That's where most newbie questions about software get posted, if it doesn't fall under a specific category. DVD Ripping and Software Discussion are also available. DVD Decrypter being a ripper style decryption tool, it could fall under DVD Ripping. Browsing the Forums main page would have revealed those. Apologies accepted though, Newbies often make such mistakes.

I'll have to agree with 9mmruger1, if you have a drive, it will work. The software is not drive specific. Just be aware that DVD Decrypter is no longer being supported and will not break the encryption used on some of the newer DVDs, such as "The Fog" and "Madagascar". For newer encryption systems, DVD Decrypter requires PSL2 files as a guide for the program. Various editing techniques are also employed. A more up to date software is usually easier for a newbie.
