I read a sticky about the best media thread and i found it very good but i am in the process of buying verbatim media and the ADVDinfo is CMC MAG. AE1. The website gives that info and i wanted to know if that is a good media to use for backing up ps2 games since on the website on that sticky is said cmc and mag were not high class media.

Yep, you're correct in assuming that it is not very good quality media.. always see if you can find an online shop that lists the media code beforehand.. I don't buy media unless I can be sure it's the right stuff by seeing the media code..then when I get them delivered I check them too, so then if they're not what you wanted you can send them back.

Most verbatim should be ok, but looks like you've found some bad ones... the ones I have are actually a Taiyo yuden dye 8x DVD-R, but in my burner they can burn upto 12x with the latest firmware.

yeah Verbatims are good but for a brief period they degraded themselves. but now they promise that they have stopped it and will only stick to high quality media codes.

i personally prefer Maxells ( Made in Japan ones) they haven't given me a single coaster. if u live in the UK, pop down argos and buy a 25 pack spindle of Maxell for only £10 . it is a nice deal.

one more thing, please don't be offended but avoid provocative language.

Wow Sulaim - that's more than I pay for Taiyo yudens. Did you try http://www.svp.co.uk/index.php ?

Or maybe if you don't backup very much it'd work out ok to get them from where you are? I backup a lot of movies and games and would go through a pack of those 25 in less than a week most times.. I got around 150 ritekG05 ridisc extreme DVD-R and 50 verbatim(TYG02) delivered next day for around £51.. enough to last me a few months hopefully.. the same amount of the discs you get from argos would cost £80.
I'm not saying there's anyhting wrong with the way you do it, far from it.. but in the long run, it'll work out cheaper for you my way.. even if you got the taiyo yudens at £34.99 for 100 pack with delivery at £5.49 would only work out at £41.44 for next day delivery... still only around a £1 more expensive than the maxell... and works out cheaper the more you get :)

Anyway, just letting you know

I've never had any problems with it... make sure it IS ridisc extreme though, and that it IS the ritekg05 dye... or you could end up with cmc mag discs.. which are bad.
Make sure you get them from somewhere where they tell you what dye is used before you buy them... if not then ask them what dye it is? and if they don't know ask them if you can return them if it's not the right kind... then find the code when you get home with this:-

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

Then check the disc ID with this website... will tell you if it's any good.

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?

This is what comes up for these discs though:-

But like I said, I've NEVER had any problems with them... but you might, depends on your burner's compatability etc.

What brand is it? Some are higher grade than others. But yes, it should work.. the only way to find out really is to try them. Have a look at my checklist at the top of the board or in my sig, it'll give you some idea of the settings that could make a difference between a good and bad burn.
You've definitely improved on one area though, by getting your firmware updated... let me know if you have any problems and I'll try to help you :)

The only verbatim media currently being made by cmc mag are the pearl whites and they are in the process of resorcing those out to ritek. All other verbatim media should be ok. Verbatim datalifeplus's are all I use. Media code MCC003.
