i have about 100 movies on memorex discs and have been reading that over time the memorex might become faulty with freezing issues and discs not playing. i recently have a bunch of maxell discs and was wondering should i transfer the movies i have on memorex over to the maxell discs. thanks a bunch in advance.

What type do you use? DVD-R or DVD+R? I CAN tell you this: Either way you'll have better media with the Maxells. The Maxell Made in Taiwan DVD-R usually are RITEK. Good Media. The last I got were Maxell DVD-R 8x, MIT. They coded as RITEKG05 Good ones. Memorex? Not worth the money . Junk. If you are going to tranfer the ones on the "Memosux" to the Maxells, I personally would use CloneDVD 2 & Clone them. Just the way I would do it. You could also use Nero Recode too.
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Personally speaking,
I'd back them up right away on Maxell unprintables.
I've used a combo of Maxell ritek G005 and Hitachi's
Really good discs

Yup,
I'd do it right away and not by Memorex again.
I've got close to 1200 back ups on Maxell of various makes (Ritek, Hitachi ,MIJ)
and all are the same as the day they were burned (Ido a batch Nero scan on my disc's)
I would at this stage recommend non printable Disc's

100, thats alot. have u ran the memorex through dvdinfopro to see what they are? when i started using memorex in 03, the ones i was getting were mostly ritek with a few prodisc. it was late 04 before the cmc mags started showing up in my area. if they do turn out to be mags, run a scan for crc errors. if thier are no errors u should be able to copy them to the maxell media.

@darnton -
what i do is simply copy/paste the video_ts folder to hard drive using windows explorer (as all the encryption malarkey has already been dealt with on the original copies) then simply burn back to decent media using burning program of choice.
CMC Mag (Ugh!). run away...

no way don't say that, i nearly bought some in the week as well. that'll teach me to dither..
i'll just have to buy shedloads then when they get some in, i've started buying in mutiples of 8 tubs as then they're still in the original slim carton straight from Japan and i can store them easier that way. i still have many, many tubs, but why should they be in a cold warehouse when i could be nurturing them

Don't even compare that shitty (piece of crap) Memosux, especially CMC MAG to MAXELL (Hitachi or Ritek). I have no further comment.

Let's see now... CMC = Memorex = "Memosux" , right? Then does that mean that CMC = Verbatim = "Verbsux"? Then we have Samsung, Philips, Imation and some others that sell CMC; does that mean they are all "sux"?
Luckily Verbatim doesn't sell CMC predominantly as Memorex has. I have a huge batch of Memorex backups, but they're the Ricoh manufactured media (good stuff) except for one small batch of CMC. When Memorex moved to using CMC predominantly for both -R and +R recordable media, that's when I changed brands. I got stuck with a small batch of CMC +R. To date, I've not had any of the ones I recorded turn up bad. However, I got some coasters in the burn process. My problem with them was getting a good burn. Once burned, they played okay.
When/if the CMC do show up bad, then I'll just do another backup. I wouldn't redo a lot of backups if they're playing properly. Stories of DVD rot and other woes are often over exaggerated. Storing a DVD properly in it's container does a lot toward extending the life of the media. Most media once recorded will probably outlast the technology we're now using to play it. (How many of you have 45 RPM and 33 1/3 RPM records?) ;) Backups aren't really intended to be permanent anyway. That is unless you're lucky enough to live in one of those locales where it's legal to record anything you wish. They're usually meant for use in order to preserve the original. ;)

Me, but I'm of the age (almost 63) where they were popular. I have 2 large boxes of albums and nothing to play them on. Not sure what to do with them.
