Hi there, just concerned about a problem I encountered

I usually buy verbatim dvd discs, I have started using the dual layer discs in my burner, they work great, I have a 4.7GB Burner

I went out and bought the TDK brand, DVD+R DL discs well for some reason they are not reading at all in the drive. I used a dual layer burner to transfer the data over. Yet its just not reading in my laptop drive.

well, the Verbatim DVD+R DLs are IMHO, the very BEST DLs on the market today...

i PERSONALLY despise TDK media...all across the board, i've had nothing but piss poor results in the past with TDK's own manufactured media...

however, this has nothing to do with TDK's DL media...i'm assuming you got the RICOHJPND00 coding on your TDK DL media right? while i have NEVER personally used the RICOHJPN DLs, i've read they are pretty good...but, i have no personal experience i can add to that...

your burner might be picky when it comes to DL media...i know a LOT of people have issues with Ritek DL media, i for one DO NOT have issues with Ritek, but many others do...this could be a similiar case where your burner LOVES the Verbatim DLs, but not the RICOHJPND00 coded ones by TDK...trial and error basically...

firmware might need updating too...to recognize these newer DL medias....need the model number/brand of your burner to help u any further with the firmware update...

Thanks for your feedback
I have updated the firmware and its made no difference I guess it just prefers the Verbatim ones over the TDK ones. I have no problem with either till now with the DL ones.

I think I might have wasted 50 bucks on these discs and can't use with my laptop which is a shame

Recently, out of shear boredom, I purchased as many different brands/manufacturers of DVD+R DL media as I could lay my paws on ... the TDK that I purchased coded as RICOHJPN D00 and I thought to myself 'great' as I've always had good success with Ricohjpn media in the past ... WOW! was I fooled ... the RICOHJPN D00 crap was even worse than the Philips CD2 and the gasp CMC Mag D01 ...

My list in order of success rate ...

1- MKM001 (Verbatim, Imation)
2- Ritek D02 (Memorex)
3- Philips CD2 (in with the Memorex 25 pack which yielded 9 Ritek D02)
4- CMC Mag D01 (RiDisc - purchased at Big Lots 5 for $7)
and last and certainly/onfortunately least
5- RICOHJPN D00 (TDK and Fuji)

I also tried 3 Memorez DVD-R DL discs coding as CMC Mag AD4 and my BenQ froze on the first two ... so, in a fit of pissedoffidness, I shattered the third ...

??Conclusion?? ... with over 150 successful burns (100%) the MKM 001 Verbatim and Imation are, without any doubt, the top of the heap. I rate them first, second and third best +DL media ... there is NO other brand that will be used in my home or office ever again!!!

we live and learn becks24...catfreak has even MORE DL media experience than me, so, i trust his judgement on DL media as HE has tried pretty much ALL of the various brands and manufacturers of each...

i had only READ that the ricohjpn was decent on the DL media, but as stated earlier, i have had ZERO personal experience with them...catfreak confirmed that based on HIS experience with the TDK and FUJI ricohjpnd00 DL media, that i will KEEP my own DL media purchases at ZERO for those 2 brands...

i stand by my initial statement that Verbatim DVD+R DLs, with proper media id coding in my sig, is the BEST at this point in time~

DL discs are 8.5 GB. I'm not sure you can even use them in your 4.7 GB burner. Maybe you can still burn a single layer on a DL disc. I've never tried. I figure that is a waste, especially with the cost of DL discs.
Or was that a typo, about a 4.7 GB burner?
A 4.7 GB (single layer) burner, will not burn double layers, on a DL disc.

No I don't use my burner to burn on the dual layer discs I use another computer and burner for that. I only use my 4.7 burner to view what's on the disc
