the problem you have with your players are not their fault but could be a # of reasons why some play and some do not!

first and formost, use good media! http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
here is a guide to help you recognize what good media is and what crappy media is. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell are just a few good media (buy made in Japan), and you can't go wrong..... it's just as expensive to buy the crappy stuff as it is to buy the good stuff and a lot of problems will go away!

second is always burn at 4x (or no more than half the value of the disk).. so if your disk is 16x don't burn more than 8x.... I still would burn at 4x anyways..... this helps those players to read your disk ..... some players are finicky ...... and also there will be less write errors if you burn slow.

third.... do not multi task while burning.... sometimes this will make write errors and some players will or won't play your disk.

and fouth...... read this thread with many useful information that will help you out: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136
read #3,#4,#12

don't blame your player...... find the right things that work for your players and stick with it! some are finicky and some will take everything on! hope this helps.

Too bad I got here late, I would have suggested the Philips they're selling down to Wal Marts. Inexpensive and plays most anything round and supports multiple formats. Some players have firmware problems which make them picky with different media. I suspect the ones that don't play have a different manufacturer code than the ones that do. Good decision on the player, that's the least expensive route to take unless you got a more expensive model. The prices are down now and I only paid about $60 for mine last year.

Taiyo Yuden makes some of the better Verbatim. You're usually buying good media with Verbatim, but you're also buying a name. Sony (MIJ) 8X +R is Taiyo Yuden, Fuji 8X +R (MIJ) was, I'm not sure for now, and then there is the Taiyo Yuden brand selling under it's own name. So there are 3 brands the same disc as you buy under the Verbatim brand. So buy the 8X +R MIJ Sonys (the MIT are good as well) at the store or go online and get the Taiyo Yuden from online suppliers, shop for the best prices.

If that's all, you got took. The Shack is a bit high anyway. My "Wally World" Philips player supports all the DVD formats, and CD audio, VCD, SVCD, MP3, DivX and others I don't remember. As I said, almost anything round.
