Is there a way to skip to the next episode on the DVD instead of Next Chapter?

I was just wondering because I have some 4 hour DVDs and finding the right spot is sometimes a hassle. Is there a way to skip right to the beginning of that episode? WinAVI sets chaters by a certain amount of time but I like that. I just think it'd be cool if you could skip to a certain episode right away to help speed up the process. Like jump to the 3rd movie file on the dvd or somthing.

Yes...and no. How's that for an unbelievably vague answer! :)

But seriously, yes you can set it up so that you skip to the next episode and not just to the next chapter, but you can't have chapters. Get it? K, well you can have chapters, but you'd have to go back to the menu to directly skip episodes.

So here's the dilly, you have to use software that will encode the episodes separately. (TMPGEnc comes to mind for example) When you encode them separately, they can be 'authored' (note key word) onto a DVD and then when you want to skip episodes you just go to the menu and pick you episode. And this way you can still have chapters in your episodes separately.

Now on the other hand, if you want your episodes set up such that all you want to do is lazily (and I mean really lazy here) press the 'forward' button on your remote to get the next episode, then encode the episodes separately, but without any chapters. Oh and set the flag in your authoring software that does something to the effect of 'continuous play'. (Nero has that particular flag for sure.)

Anyhoo, that was a bit of a garble. Reply if that was at all confusing :)
