I have a really simple question, forgive me if this is in a wrong forum, sooo many to go through.
I want to copy movies I have downloaded onto the Acro Circle DVD+RW discs I bought.
The movies are usually in mpeg or avi format. Using divxtodvd to convert, then burn, they don't work in the dvd player.
Tried Nero, nothing.
Once converted, what are the typical file types one should see BEFORE burning to the DVD.
With one movie I have three VOB files, two bup files and two ifo files. they, in turn, are located in a file called Video_TS I get the feeling something is missing.
help.
and is there such a thing as a bad DVD disc?? These Acro Circles I got I have never heard of before but my Sony 16X DVD+/-RW has a problem burning any file types except DVD file associations. Should I have bought TDK or HP???

Hi shybri69, Welcome to AD. Your conversion process looks Ok. Those Acro blanks I have never heard of. Poor quality blank media is one of the biggest problem makers when burning dvds. I would try to find so TY, Verbatim or Ritek blanks if possible. Also make sure your player can play the format(- or +) blanks that you are using. At this point I think its those Acro blanks causing the problem.

Like Jerry mentioned, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Ritek media in that order is the way to go. :)

Oh gees, that was a good point brought up.
I checked with my owners manual on my JVC player, it will play DVD/Super DVD/SVCD/VCD but doesn't say anything about +/-, it's about four years old, definitely not the best they had to offer at the time.
Am I safer to go with either + or - just in case??? my burner will burn and read just about anything out there and even has dual layer capability, but not looking to confuse things anymore then they are :)

Since your player doesn't actually say it plays - or + this is just a guess. Most older players were more compatible with - R media so I would try that if any. Good luck.

I guess I was looking at the wrong piece of equipment, instead of the dvd burner, guess I should be looking at a new dvd player. I do like the re-write option, not a big collector of dvd movies. But I shall try a DVD-R and see what happens.

ok you can also booktype +R to dvdrom so its more like an original for better compatibilty
your burner must allow this though not all do!

okay I think I confirm my problem.
As you all said, my player is a JVC XV-S200 and in it's online description, it will play,
Plays DVD-Video, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 CD, SVCD, VCD
Component-video, S-video, and composite-video connection accommodate nearly any television
3D Phonic simulates surround sound from any two speakers
High-bit, high-sampling (10-bit, 27 MHz) video digital-to-analog converter
1-bit P.E.M. D.D. audio converter with 96 kHz/24-bit resolution
nothing about DVD-Rs or DVD+R or any of them :( crap. I did try buring a SVCD and it did work, but quality, picture, sound very VERY bad. I need a player, but definitely thanks to you all for that, now I know what the problem is and didn't waste any additional money, again, my thanks.

oh, well it does play any dvd that i rent from the store.
So maybe not all is lost, okay, well I shall go back to plan B and try a DVD-R and see if that works.

just an update :) got a pack of Samsung DVD-R's, so we shall see tonight, hopefully the converting thing works and we're off to the races, fingers crossed.

okay, well good news is that Super DVD creator, did convert and burn with success.
However, it is in widescreen which is fine, but the picture looks a little shaky and the sound, sounds like they are talking in a tunnel :)
I was going to try another movie, but it was over the size that would fit on a DVD.
So should I be looking for certain file types, like dvd rips, as opposed to avi's or mpegs??? I think it was that specific file I downloaded that was the problem. I thought the stuff on bittorents was pretty reliable.
But hey, it BURNT!!!!! YEEE HAAAA
(sorry I have no life it takes very little to get me excited) :)

gees almost forgot to mention, when I did burn it I did allow it to burn at the max at 8X should I have done, 6X or even 4X?? don't know if that would have helped or not.

hi all
being a man wanting things to be smaller seems to go against the grain but when it comes to file types, i am a lover of all things small, AVI + TFM + CCE goes together like a beautiful angel...

just out of curiousity, I have converted, going to burn.
When using Nero 7, is it better to burn as an image, data file or just simply grab the VOB and other files in that folder the chuck them over to the disc to be burnt????

success, movie burnt fine, good picture, good sound. All depends on the file itself. The first file I downloaded only 496 megs, same movie, 624 megs, after conversion, 2.27 gigs. absolutely beautiful.

Good work. When downloading movie files much of the quality depends directly on how good the original download is. Like the old saying about garbage in---garbage out.

dvds are perfect, once again, thanks for the help.
now I have obtained four discs each with only bin files on them, can't seem to figure out how to get them to work, I have tried, Nero 7, Isobuster, it is apparently a game, help again!!
