I've been having a problem with my movies skipping and then stopping or freezing from everything I've read they blame the media could this be the sole problem?

are you multitasking? ... DON'T!!

you need to make sure that you turn off ALL firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spyware, screensaver .. in other words, anything not essential for you to rip, process and burn your DVDs should be turned OFF ... any of these things can cause freezing and skipping

I don't multitask, I do have Macfee antivirus but I've always had that I don't think I have any firewalls.

the word is bookTYPING ... and if you go to the first link in my sig, you'll be educated as to just what that means ...

EDIT ...
Pioneer drives only support booktyping with DVD+R DL discs unless you hack the firmware

and booktyping only increases compatability ... it will NOT cure skipping and freezing

Memorex media could very well be your problem ... get yourself some Verbatim or, Maxell or made in Japan Sony or made in Japan Fuji discs ...

How about Nero do you or have you ever used Nero for burning? I think that may be my problem, I've just recently started having problems and I'm just tryin to trouble shoot. Now everytime I burn something and then put in the dvd player it comes up disc error.

it's your Memorex media...that is the culprit... :)

you need to use GOOD QUALITY media to begin with to avoid the "skipping/freezing" that is prone to poor quality media such as the Memorex you are using now...

catfreak gave you good suggestions for media...if need more, look at my sig., i happen to use my Pioneer drive regularly...i don't use official firmware due to it's lack of booktyping ability, but you need to start with "baby steps" and get better media to work with before booktyping has anything to improve upon...

bitsetting/booktyping ONLY increases compatibility on stand alone players, it does NOTHING to prevent skipping/freezing like you are experiencing right now...that is a MEDIA issue...not a booktyping issue~ :)
