So I am wondering if anyone is having the same problem as me and if anyone knows how to fix it. When I try to backup a dvd of mine, dvd shrink does everything fine until the burning process. Once it starts trying to write the lead-in, the status box shows that there was a PMA UPDATE FAILURE. What does this mean and how can it be fix? Due to this, I am unable to backup my movies.
Also, is DVD Shrink compatible with the updated version of Nero?
Thanks for the help!

Make sure that your firmware is current.
And yes the new Nero is compatible with DVD Shrink.

Also, that you are using good media like Sony, Verbatim, Maxell, Fuji or Taiyo Yuden and burning at a reasonable speed like 4x it makes for less errors.

gagger84 ,
Are you using a Nvidia chipset? If you Google " PMA Update Failure" the vast majority of people that got that message was because of that chipset. Just read the threads as you will have to uninstall some of the chipsets

Here is what you are looking for
Meomorex is not the best of media, it is inconsistent. You may get some good burns, but others will fail. Better to buy the good brands such as Sony, Verbatim, Maxell, or Fuji. There are always sales and you can get them cheap. BestBuy and Staples have Sony on sale right now you can pick up 50 for 15.00.

So I went to this site (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php) to find out the newest firmware for my drive, but I am unsure what one to pick. I just came to realize that my firmware is very old so do I have to pick the next in line or can I pick the newest one? Thanks again!

If possible it is always best to use the newest version fw, unless there is something specific that says you have to have another ver installed first you should be able to use the latest.

Always go with the mfr if they offer updates, it is the best policy.

Do you know what this means:
Connect the drive to the secondary IDE channel as a master drive with
no other devices connected to that channel. Also disconnect any other optical
drives connected to the computer. Start Windows and verify it can
recognize the drive.

Easy enough unhook all drives from the secondary ide cable. Leave te hard drives hooked to the primary ide cable. Then hook the burner up as a master on the secondary ide cable with no other drives set as a slave on the cable or the master cable.

If the directions said no other drives then disconnect the rom that is on the secondayr ide cable and let the burner ba all by itself on the secondary cable.:>

Can I just unhook the other drive? Or do I have to shutdown and do it? Also, when I hook it back up can I just plug it back in and be good to go? Thanks.

Yes of course shut down before disconnecting the rom unless ya like a crispy well done drive..lol! Then just plug it back when done. There is no need to disconnect the ide cable as long as power is disconnected from the second.
