I am a newbie to this forum, however I have been burning movies for a while. The latest distraction I am having is with Sony movies.

I currently have the following:
DVD Decrypter
DVD43
DVD Fab Decrypter
Image Burn
VOBBlanker
DVD Shrink
PgcEdit
DVD-Cloner III (It use to work - and still does on older Movies)
Nero 6
Roxio 7

Ok- The first two movies I have experienced with this are The Fog & The Legend of Zorro. Both of them being Sony pictures presentations. Unfortunatley Decrypter or Fab will not work even with DVD43 running in the background. I know this because even though it has completed, when I run shrink I see black all the way through the movie except the last chapter.

I tried running PgcEdit with DVD43 turned off. Followed the step by step instructions to let Decrypter do the shrinking. Even though it finished, it would not burn. There seems to be a lot of blank cells. If you use PgcEdit to open the disk and try to remove the unwanted material it still will not burn.

Unfortunately I have been working on these movies for three days and have not come up with a solution. I have nothing further to add except good luck and I hope someone can figure this one out.

The easiest thing to do is uninstall DVD43, and in it's place use AnyDVD. AnyDVD is like DVD43, but it's well supported and constantly updated, it comes with a 21 day free trial before you have to buy it. Check it out here..

Easier Method: Buy AnyDVD and leave it running in system tray. Open DVD Shrink or Nero Recode, which will see movie as not protected. Then proceed as if no copy protection were present at all. This is the simplist way to solve your problem. It saves a step or two and is easy. AnyDVD is worth every penny and occasionally will give a $10 discount to afterdawn users,

Here's my method: 100% success regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS, no AnyDVD, no DVD43 required, no hustle. All tools are FREE, except for Nero.

<><><> Alkohol's VobBlanker method <><><>
<> rip the movie with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F to hard drive
<> or rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.6.8 to hard drive
<> VobBlanker version 2.1.0.0 to process and filter out fake/bad cells
<> encode/transcode with Nero Recode 2 or DVD Shrink
<> burn with Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express

<><><> Alkohol's 2nd method <><><>
<> rip the movie with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F to hard drive
<> or rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.6.8 to hard drive
<> PgcEdit combo PSL2 plugin + FixVTS to process and filter out craps, fake cells
<> encode/transcode with Nero Recode 2 or DVD Shrink
<> burn with Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express

That's it... easy as sippin' on a Corona. No sweat, no worry, no glitches, no black screen, no misery, no hustle, no AnyDVD, no DVD43, 100% success.

Enjoy it!!

Had no problem with this movie using AnyDVD and Shrink...I purchased AnyDVD, so I'm not sure if this is a better version than the free 21 day trial, but it worked either way....If you're not into buying the programs, alkohol's methods have worked like a charm for me, so they are worth giving a shot if you don't have AnyDVD for this movie

The 21 day trial version of AnyDVD should be identical to the paid version if all updates have been added. Just check how many times this program has been updated over the last three weeks. They are doing everything possible to stay on top of every new copy protection scheme. The updates alone are worth what they charge for this program even if they had given away the base program.

All these copy combos sure give me a head ache. I have yet to find a movie that the current version of fad decrypter+shrink+nero haven't copied. 1 in 50 brand new movies may require VOB banker but that's no big deal. Don't waiste your money on any dvd like I did!!! There might be a time in the future where it will be needed but nows not the time when all the free programs kick sony and macrovisions AZZ!!

Yes, but how can you tell ehich are fake/badd cells. I used your screen shots for Madagascar (worked great), but only because you pointed out the bad cells. How can you tell which ones to blank?

I've been copying DVDs for sometime now and I find the most simple way to copy sony's new releases are to use AnyDVD & Shrink. While using shrink the best way to remove the black screen that makes copying hard is to use the start/end buton to edit out that part of the movie. You start the movie from the first logo shown.

I really hate to say this, but you're wrong on VobBlanker. As much as I love DVDFAB Decrypter, I still have to run the movie through VobBlanker to process and clean out any junks/craps or fake cells, fake pgcs, etc. that DVDFAB Decrypter did not successfully cracked.

I'll give an example of 3 new release movies; The Cave, Wedding Crashers and Dark Water. If all you did was ripped the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter and transcode with DVD Shrink as usual, then YES... of course it will be succesful for most of the times, but NOT ALWAYS. However, after successfully burning the movie into a DVD-R or DVD+R and you're watching it on a standalone dvd player, you'll see a "black screen" or "freeze or glitches" at certain chapters, this is what I mean by DVDFAB Decrypter has not "completely" get rid of all of the fake/encrypted cells and this is what I mean by NOT ALWAYS. Therefore, it's wise to run it through VobBlanker and process it, so it can successfully filter out craps. However, the choice is yours.

Here is a good thread on Dark Water by a member name rn73, (*NOTE: he even mentioned of a failure when using AnyDVD to backup as well), http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/292333

Cheers!!

Just a thought gents about Sony DVD backup problems.... perhaps using AnyDVD and then using CloneDVD2 to create an ISO image. Mount the ISO image using Daemon Tools and then use DVD Shrink to do its stuff and then the result should be a perfect copy of the original. Hope that helps.

@johnstarr

I'm a "full disc" person. However, whenever I used VobBlanker, I blank out every possible scenes, such as fake/bad cells or pgcs, fbi warning crap, any useless trailers/previews (I only keep the one I like) and some extras (I do keep the one I like though). Which helps a lot on the encoding process with Nero Recode 2 (for me - *NOTE: I set my custom to 4430MB now because I only use genuine media like YUDEN, VERBS and MAXELL "mij").

So far I've never ran into any issues with all of the latest new release, regardless if it's ARccOS or RipGuard.

Cheers!!

alkohol....

I'm really new at this and have been reading your posts. i've been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to burn DVD's, but ran into my first problem like everyone else with Madagascar. It seems like if i use VOBBlanker i'll get around that problem. My problem is that i have no idea how to use it. your instructions....

<><><> Alkohol's VobBlanker method <><><>

I saw your screen shots, but the user guide i've been using to backup DVD's doesn't have me create a Video_TS folder so i'm a little lost on step 3 (VobBlanker).

Can I also use DVD Shrink and DVD Decryper to burn the DVD instead of Nero?

Thanks in advance with all your help.

@shagwell

Here is a FREE and safe download file of VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 if you haven't done so. By the way, it's only 900KB http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2100_exe.zip

YES.... you can have DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn to burn the final compression VIDEO_TS file from DVD Shrink. Once you open up DVD Shrink, Open Files, take out any unwanted stuff, audio, subtitles, set all your quality settings, and ready to "backup", just make sure to set your target to: "create an ISO Image and burn with DVD Decrypter".

However, first, you can not PROCESS any ISO with VobBlanker. With that being said, it needs to be ripped in VIDEO_TS file/folder only, such as having DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.6.8 to rip or have DVD Decrypter to rip via MODE, File F successfully into the hard drive first. Once it's completed, then open up VobBlanker 2.1.0.0, set your input, output and just click on PROCESS, that's it... let VobBlanker do it's job. To make things easy, go into your hard drive and create a new folder called: NEW LEGEND OF ZORRO and a sub-folder name VIDEO_TS inside NEW LEGEND OF ZORRO, EXIT out. *NOTE: NEW LEGEND OF ZORRO, VIDEO_TS is the one you want to make it as "output" because this will have all the clean/new VIDEO_TS files without any craps/junks and THIS IS THE ONE you will NEED TO use it with DVD Shrink.

Here is an EXAMPLE of what I'm talking about "input" and "output", basically, input = is your source of ripped VIDEO_TS file and output = your new destination VIDEO_TS folder that you're going to transcode/encode with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 (your choice).

Once VobBlanker is done. It's DVD Shrink now, and I'm sure you know what to do with DVD Shrink. Just use Open Files, and do your usual shrinking process.

Good luck!! Enjoy it and let me know how it goes.

This method has always worked for these stupid SONY movies that DVD Decrypter has problems with (i.e. Error message concerning DVD navigation structure or memory issues)...

- You will need DVD Decrypter, DVDFab Decrypter, and Vobblanker (all free!)

- Use DVDFab Decrypter to rip the movie to your hard drive into a folder of your choosing. This program is very easy to use and requires very little technical knowledge. All you need to do is specify the output folder on you hard drive where the movies will be put. This is done during setup of DVDFab decrypter. A good choice is c:\DVDFABCOPY.

- Then use VOBblanker to process the movie to ANOTHER folder of your choosing. A good choice is c:\BLANKED. You must tell vobblanker where the input folder(file) that DVDFab ripped to your hard drive is (c:\DVDFABCOPY) and then look inside the VIDEO_TS (not AUDIO_TS) sub-folder (choose the ISO file that is in there as the input source for Vobblanker). Then, specify a location to put the VOBblanker processed file (again, a good choice is c:\BLANKED)as the output folder. Then simply press "Process" at the bottom. Again, for newbies, this program requires little technical knowledge.

- Now use DVD Decrypter to open the vobblanked file in c:\BLANKED(use the "open file" option this time rather than "open disc" option)and there are no more error messages from DVD Decrypter! - AWESOME!

Math is the the language that the universe is written in...
