Make sure the drive hasn't reverted to PIO mode, if so set it back to DMA if available.

Here's how:
http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

Also scan the PC to make sure it's free of spyware, download and install spybot S&D to do it.

I have been using DVD Shrink for about6 weeks & never had a problem. It was taking a few hours start to finish using DVD Decrypter & the DVD Shrink to burn. I have not changed anything but now it encodes at about 40KB/s & tells me it will take 50-70 hours to burn. Please help, Thanks

Those instructions are common, you see them everywhere. You should check both the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels. By the way, what does it say in the "Current Transfer Mode" in both the Primary and Secondary Channels? Another thing mentioned that no one has brought up is using another app to see if it is a system problem or something up with the software. I'd suggest downloading the CloneDVD2 trial from http://www.slysoft.com and give that a spin. Since the encryption software for Shrink is outdated, it might be an idea to download the AnyDVD trial as well. You can read how AnyDVD works at the website. It's a short read as the app does the work for you.

DVD clone is working better, but any idea why DVD Shrink would just stop working right?

Programs can become corrupted for different reasons. I'd suggest going into the Control Panel and using Add Remove Programs to remove Shrink. Go into programs and check to see if any of the Shrink folder is left. Delete it if there is. After rebooting, run a registry cleaner and then do a clean install of Shrink 3.2 from a fresh download from AD. Then if it's still acting up, we can say there is some interference and start looking for the problem. I don't think just changing the priority setting would make enough difference to make such a drastic change in time. One way to see though, reset it and see. ;)

I did what you said & unistalled DVD Shrink. After I rebooted I did a registry cleaner & the downloaded DVD Shrink again from afterdawn. I tried again & it is faster (only 51 vs.40 KB/s) but nowhere even close to what I had before. Any suggestions from this point on?

It works! I did not have the overlapping IO checked & once I did it is encoding at 3200 KB/s. Thanks for the help & info. I'll let you know if I have more problems, but I think it's all solved. I still don't know why that got clicked off. Thank you

Just an inadvertent click can cause all kinds of problems. Glad you got it going. Good luck. Remember the Guides under Help -> Help Topoics on the Shrink toolbar.

Just wondering, I'm getting anywhere from 3000-4200 KB/s rate, I have a 1.7 GHz processer w/ 512 MB RAM. Is this about normal for the system I'm running.
