I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what color the recording surface on these DVD's by Sony were. I heard that if the recording surface is a blueish hue that it is alot better than those which are purple. Is there any truth to that?

If anyone has any info I would really appreciate it.

sony has always did well for me. ive never had any that were blue on the recording surface. if they are blue then its something new, all the ones ive used were the same color as the maxell and verbatim. the only problem ive had with sony 8x media is it tries to burn at 16x. so be sure to set the burn speed.

Hue of the Sony DVD-R 8x MIJ with Sony manufacturer ID is similar to Verbatim, TY, or TDK. It is a very light blueish purple. I don't know about the MIT, but expect that they would be the same color. Ritek and FUJIFILM03 DVD-R have a darker, deep purple color.

Yeah they are a bit purple with a hint of blue.I just bought a total of 400 Sony +R's which code out as Yudens so i am very happy with my purchase.I bought them for $80 with a hookup at Best Buy.I also bought a 100 pack of Sony -r discs. They have a weird code which is 0@P but the disc provider says Sony according to Decrypter.

Sony MIJ are TY media and Sony MIT are still good media as well.

The DVD-R should not have that 0@P code though.

Well maybe it's because they are new media and also because they are 16x discs.

XxRUINSxX- The Good Dr. is right and if I remeber correctly the 8x sony DVD-R media , may as Kivory 666 said either code out as Taiyo Yuden or as SONY08D1 on the case of Sony 8x media as long as it's made in japan it's Taiyo yuden even if it codes as SONY08D1 but also the Sony 8x DVD-R that are taiwan made also code out as SONY08D1 too so all else being equal get the Made in japan sony's if you can ! Hope this helps out XxRUINSxX good luck and happy burning!
