Does anyone know whether all of the Sony +R's 1-8x are made by TY if its MIJ? I've read that +r's are TY's but I want to know if allllll of them are. As in, are they the only one's producing these dvd's at this present time? Thanks for any feedback.

The Sony DVD+R 8x media that is Made In Japan IS Taiyo Yuden. The made in Taiwan is Very good, but NOT Taiyo Yuden made. If possible, get the Made in Japan while you can! This week Staples has it for $14.94 for 50 packs. (Take your empty printer ink cartridges for $3.00 off for each cartridge!) No Joke! If you have any.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

I think the best answer your going to get is personal experiece along with a little filling in the blanks. In my opinion the 8x Sony DVD+R MIJ will be Taiyo Yuden. I've bought several hundred from different chains and all were Ty. Of course nothing is written in stone. I'm just hoping they eventually start using Ty for their 16x stuff. I've looked throughout the city for a few weeks now and the ONLY remaining Brick and Mortar Ty left is the 8x DVD+R 50 packs of Sony. And the next sale will certainly put those in short supply.

Well I stand corrected, There are some in this thread that are apparently not TY. I would still be fairly confident right now though.

hehe...until the most RECENT of findings, the MIJ Sony DVD+R 1-8x discs WERE Taiyo Yuden produced..but as neodave linked you there on the 4th page, it is no longer the case...this may be geographically dependent, or it might not~ :) but, you never know with companies as they can switch manufacturers at any given time...

i was going to link you to that same thread...but, neodave beat me to it~ :) but, here on the 1st page, i go more in depth as to HOW to determine whether they are TYs or not AFTER the purchase...

good luck

Bunny, neo and kivory thanks for such quick replies. Yeah I have begun hording the Sony's MIJ from Staples and thats why I figured I'd ask because it'll be awhile till I get to the bottom of my load not knowing for sure whether they're TY's or not. Also, bunny awesome tip. Sadly I threw away 2 or 3 in the last week and a half. Kickin myself right now. lol Gonna check those threads in a few minutes. Thanks again

Kivory or anyone who could answer...What do you mean by inner hub in the other thread? Also, can the inner hub be checked without opening the package?

hehe..the inner hub coding i mentioned is the laser inscribed letters/number just outside of the circle (hole) area of the disc...it's very small and could require good lighting and possibly a magnifying glass to see if your eyes are not very good :)

but, ALL Taiyo Yuden media has this unique coding...look carefully...if it's TY, it WILL be there~ :)

most of the time when buying locally, it can NOT been seen without opening up the package...if it were that easy, there would be no "fun" to this media expedition that so many are engaging in as of late~ :)

lol...fun you say...i'm about to pull my hair out. I raided two local Staples' and busted some ladies' chops at one cause all the 50 pks were behind the counter and in those clear lock cabinets. Pic this...yeah that one, no, no, weird look from her again..yeah, no and so on. Trust me, it was semi embarassing. :) My bomb shelter is nearly filled with these Sony's and I'm about to have a breakdown cause I know decide to ask whats what. ahhhhhhh and duhhhh And thanks I do see what your talking about as far as the hub. Also, in those other threads they talk about dvdidentifier and such...Decrypter tells me the blank is TY, thats all i need correct?

you know whats odd, to say the least...on the 50's of Sony you cant tell the inner hub number without opening the package cause there's a foam thingy to stop the discs from moving but the 25 pack you can because there is no foam thingy there. At least on these 25's anyway. Go figure.

hehehe @chillwill

yeah, for the most part, the larger quantity spindles have that "foam thing" you are referring to...i guess it's to "protect" the discs from moving around and keep them secure during transport...

but, yeah, i can picture your scenario with the lady at the counter...been in a similar situation myself during the 30-pack colored Fuji that i was sifting through last time Staples had their sale~ :) i actually was tired of waiting for an employee to become available to assist me, so i grabbed one of those HUGE rolling ladders that they have and rolled it in front of the area that had more spindles in the back...climbed up the ladder only to be escorted down as they said the ladder was to be used by "employees only" LOL

i can't help it they put all their MIJ at the VERY top of the shelves where no normal human could reach them...hehe, i just made myself useful given what i had available in the surrounding area~ :)

but, yeah..it can be a big headache sometimes sifting through spindle after spindle and quite embarassing...i was sitting on the floor of Best Buy going through like 60+ spindles looking for the MIJ Fuji's about 8 months ago...people walking by, staring with a perplexed look on their faces...asking me what i was doing...LOL...my simple, cordial reply was, "looking for the good stuff my friend, care to join me?" LOL

good luck in finding the Taiyo Yudens should you feel the need to search some more...don't have "too much fun" now ok? lol

this will be true for the most part, since you are buying LOCALLY...there are MANY FAKE TAIYO YUDEN codings out there in a wide assortment of diff. brands...but, none of these "FAKE TYS" can be found locally here in the U.S. to the best of my knowledge at this point~ they are only avail. online~
