Does anyone know what it means when I try and burn something, it burns perfectly with no errors, but then when I try and play it, the device (computer or DVD player) can't read it. And you can tell something is burnt onto the DVD by look at the backside of it. Does this have something to do with the anti-copy protection on some movies? Do I have use a decrypter before I burn? Any help would be great, thanks!

It is probably cheap media or a bad burn(too fast)...

Provide the process and settings that you use to burn.

The media that you use, i.e. brand and type.

Speed of burn.

I use memorex DVD-R media, I have the burn speed in DVD Shrink set at maximum and I DON'T have the book-type or the high compatilibilty option checked. Otherwise I just let DVD Shrink do the rest...

You are not burning with DVD Shrink, it doesn't have a native burn engine. If you have the speed and booktype options available thru shrink you are using Nero for your burn.

Memorex is eligable for disposal in the trash can (or reserved for good friends), if you must use them do not burn over 4X (as far as that goes don't burn over 4X with any media), but may need to back it down as low as 2.5X to get a good burn. Use quality media such as Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell (made in Japan).

FYI you can't booktype -R media, only the +R flovored discs.

What does the book type dvd-rom option and burn at least 30mm (dvd+r/rw high compatibility mode) do or mean?

That means that the burn will be done as a DVD-Rom if available. Not all drives are capable of booktyping and booktyping can only be done using +R media.

Here is the big reason I avoid memosux brand dvd media:

Memorex DVD+R 16X (CMCMAG M01)
Memorex DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
Memorex DVD+R 4x (MBIPG101-R03-000)
Memorex DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
Memorex DVD+R 4x Printable (MCC-003-000)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (CMC MAG E01)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (PHILIPSC08)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (PRODISCR03)
Memorex DVD+RW 2.4x (CMC MAG.W01)
Memorex DVD+RW 2.4x (INFODISCA01)
Memorex DVD+RW 2.4x (RICOHJPNW01)
Memorex DVD+RW 4x (CMC MAG.W02)
Memorex DVD+RW 4x (MKM-A02)
Memorex DVD+RW 4x (RICOHJPNW11)
Memorex DVD-R 2x (CMC MAG.....)
Memorex DVD-R 2x (TAIYOYUDEN..)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (CMC MAG. AF1)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (MBI 01RG20)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (MCC 01RG20)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (ProdiscS03)
Memorex DVD-R 8X (CMC MAG AE1)
Memorex DVD-RW 1x (ProdiscDVDRW)
Memorex DVD-RW 2x (RITEKW01) MINI DVD-RW 1.36GB
Memorex DVD-RW 2x (RITEKW01....)
Memorex DVD-RW 2x (TDK502sakuM3)

This is just a sample of all the many different manufacturers using that memosux brand name.

Take notice of the 4x and 8x rated memosux: There's at least 3 different manufacturers for the same speed/format media, and a huge quality difference between them. 1 batch, you may get some mitsubishi's,next batch most likely cmags.Very difficult to know which ones are the spindles with the Higher quality stuff.

Not a good idea to burn max speed. I'm not sure what speed rate those memosux are,or the MID code from them. Some of these newer 16x writers will overburn the 8x speed media to 12x and 16x if that setting is left on max.

Low quality media-too fast of burn can take a toll of playback issues for some stand alone players. Even for the writer that produced that backup.

You've got the no disc inserted error, therefore those drives are telling you there is something wrong with your media.

What's the model# of your DVD-RW drive?
