LOL You guys took that too literally. Here on the forums there are a bunch of good machines. You'll notice a lot of them belong to those who have a working knowledge of what a PC needs to do. But a large number of people here or passing through have systems barely over minimum production levels. More are decent work PCs than for use encoding video and gaming. I suspect more than the 2 of you can raise their hand. I guess I should have asked, how often do you see people with enough system resources to do all the tasks they'd like to? I know we see them, but they're far from the majority.

But... one step at a time when trying to solve a problem. ;)

That info about changing settings in Decrypter to accommodate AnyDVD might be helpful to know. For myself though, I've done a lot of backups using the 2 together without problems. I hit one situation over a year ago and it was obvious I needed to turn one off. With subsequent updates of AnyDVD, the same situation never came up again. It only happened on one movie. By the way, I do a lot of the new releases, so I would have more than likely seen it again if still a problem.

Do what I suggested yet? One step at a time... If all checks okay on the PC, then look at the player. ;)

D1CK1E,

You never did tell us what DL media you are using. I second aabbccdd's suggestion and recommend only verbatim DL media. Keep burn speed at 2.4x at least untill you are sure you have overcome the freezing, pausing problem.

aabbccdd,

I like everything in your sig but as you already know, mostly adriana. ;)

I used to prefer dvdremake paired with dvdcopy3 over CloneDVD 2 untill I noticed that copy3 was making a target folder of only about 3.8 gb so I quit using it and almost exclusively use remake and rb/cce. There has been 1 exception with a sony dvd where the backup would not play on my set-top dvd player (it's pretty particular as it would play fine on the neighbors dvd player) and transcoded the folder with CloneDVD 2 and playback problem was cured. Only that particular one (exorcism of emily rose) and like I said it played fine on my dvdrw's and the neighbors dvd player. Strange. Needless to say my neighbor got a free backup.

What re-authoring capabilities am I missing? I'm familiar with CloneDVD2 and in fact have a copy. I use DVD Rebuilder with Cinema Craft Encoder for most of my encoding jobs. It's slow but the quality is hard to beat. I just set up a batch job to do 3 or 4 at a time. I can use the PC or let it run alone. I have DVDReMake and DVDLabPro, but don't feel the need to use them with RB/CCE. If I want a quick job, I use DVDCopy 4 from InterVideo. I've never had any problems with it and it's fast with excellent video output. It will record DL as well. Did I forget to mention I have Nero 7 with the Recode, DVDXCopy including the newer 5 version that does DL, Procoder, DVD2One, 1ClickDVDCopy, DVDSanta and I bunch of stuff I'd have to look around to find? LOL I was in on the big compare the transcoder thread we had running last year.

I suspect I have more software lost than many people will ever own. LOL I didn't mention some of the complicated apps I can't use very well, like Vegas and Premiere. And I have a bunch of utilities as well. A lot of these I haven't reloaded on my last format.

As for Copy 4's burn speeds, with my equipment and media, I haven't had any problems yet. But with RB, I don't use a lot of the other apps except for testing and educational purposes. Burning the RB output, I use Nero or CopyToDVD3. There I can control the burn speeds. Normally though I limit the speeds to 6-8X. If the media is acting dodgy, I'll drop to 4X.

Did I mention A Pinnacle suite and another from Sonic? I have player software coming out of the wazoo. I need to do inventory again sometime so I have a reference list on this stuff. I guess you could say I've been a software junkie. My buddy BigO has me beat though. LOL

As far as controlling the burn speed with dvdcopy3/4, it can be done by selecting a premade folder as the target and then burn with some alternative burning software such as Nero. As I previously mentioned my version for some reason is making the target folder size quite a bit smaller than is required, about 3900 mb as opposed to 4430 mb which is about ideal for top quality media.

Yeah I have been burning at 4x with Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. It seems to happen half way through the video (ie maybe at the layer switch)... so i'm guessing it's my dvd player since my xbox and pc can play it fine.

Seriously this is the most helpful forum ever. =) thanks

That's one of the most inexpensive components around as well. Good ones for around $50 and cheapos down around $25 to $30.

Brobear all plays well on pc even when I was burning at 16x. The stand alone player I am using is a Samsung DVD-P241, Progressive scan, plays DVD,CD,MP3,DVD-R playback.
I have used DVD Decrypter then DVD Shrink 3.2 for encoding then burn with DVD Decryter same problem occurs. I will try oher suggestions and let you know the out come.

That lends support to the suggestion you get a new player. Sounds like you need to figure out if it's the backup system or the player. There's a couple things you may want to do. Try playing your burned DVD on another standalone player. Be sure it's been playing backups okay. Does the burned DVD play okay on your PC's DVD drive? Try a good backup that was made on another PC. Does it play okay on your standalone player?

Brobear I tried something a little more simpler, first I turned off my modem so as not to be connected to the internet. Then I disabled Norton Antivirus. Ran movie saved on hard drive back through DVD Shrink, burned with DVD Decrypter: perfect copy no pixelation no freezing.

Okay, sounds like you solved the problem. Seems to go back to those compression errors mentioned before. The software you used is doing a better job of encoding the movie. Did you use quality settings in Shrink or just run it without them. The deep analysis and AEC do a good job.
