I have a cyberhome dvd player and majority of the time it will not play the movies i back up. I have tried multiple things to get movies to play in it but 95% of the time the movie freezes or skips during playback. I have heard that writing on burned dvd disk affects the playback of them is that true?

I think it's the player that cannot play your backup. My Shinco & Samsung DVD players can play any of the backup I throw at it. Try to use DVD-R instead of +R because quite a few players can't play back the +R disks. Can your PC played the backups? If not then you really have a problem.

What model is your dvd player? Cyberhome will play +/- r/rw media. Maybe try booktyping.

What have you tried?

What's the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?

What's the brand name and speed rate of your blank plus format media?

Oh yea! Some standalone can have a heck of a time reading backups.

Sounds like that cyberhome player you have is a picky player. These picky players have trouble with:

Burn speed-too fast
Burn speed too slow
Media-Poor quality
paper/sticker labels
Dirty lens-lens cleaning in order, but as a last resort
Too much compression: Again, poor quality media.
Poor quality burner
Burn program

Your cyberhome recognizes the format of your backups, therefore switching to dash format will not do much for you, unless it is a higher quality media. By pixellating/freezing/skipping- That cyberhome is telling you it don't like something about your media. Maybe something simple as a media change or lens cleaning on that cyberhome. The lens cleaning is a last resort though, before a replacement player so it's a last resort.

I use mostly high quality media and when I encounter those issues,it's usually the stand alone players fault.

Your cyberhome has no trouble recognizing your plus backups, just playback issues. Poor quality media/too fast burn speed/or a combo of both are usually the culprit. Try switching to a better media. The answer to what brand name and speed rate of your media should answer that. An MID code would be even better.

Staples has sony on sale this week. Look for made in japan on those wrappers for the ones made by taiyo yuden. Sunday,Best buy has verbatim on sale for the same $15 a spindle of 50. Those are also very good, and keep the burn speed at 4x. You got to watch those 16x verbs, they scan better when burned at 8x and 12x.Very poor results and playback issues on the backups I burned at 2.4x.

Let us know of the brand of media and your burner model.

What are you using to write on the disc? I hope it's a Sharpie! Don't use a pen. It will do damage.

I have two of these cheapies and they play anything, including dual layer backups. IMHO I think your player is bad.

Yep, it's the media. Or a combination of media/player. Have a cyberhome and it'll play most anything, on anything - except if what I'm wanting to play happens to be on the latest batch of Imation disks I picked up.
