Hi everyone!

I am trying to get my friend up and burning. I have her computer her with me now to fix. I would really appreciate any help you guys have to offer. I used DVDD, DVD Shrink, Nero to rip and burn. This was done this summer so she doesn't have the latest Nero installed yet. However, the issue has never been resolved. I received the following error:

It does not like the media that it's being fed. This may have something to do with the firmware.

I would slow down the burn to 4x.

Media issue again.

The drive's firmware is out of date, it should be at version 1.92

Looks like the burner is having a little trouble recognizing/writing to the media you're using, if the firmware update doesn't resolve this ussue, I suggest using another brand of media like sony or verbatim (make sure it's manufactured in japan)

Failing at 8x write speed, try bringing it down to 4X

You might also want to consider having shrink decrease it output file size to 4300MB, so as not to get too close to the disks max capacity, you don't want to burn too close to the disk's outer edge.

It's always good to have more than one looking at these logs. You found the firmware that I did not. I did not go to the NEC site to look.

I think that the firmware will resolve a lot of the issues for her.

You guys are great! Thank you for your responses! This is just one of the problems for this computer. She has tons of viruses, one that captured her home page and internet connection. I am in the process of wiping it out. Then I will update everything on it. I didn't want to update Nero until I cleaned her computer.

I just changed my settings for Shrink to 4300MB as well and it worked for "Lord of War" so I will do that to her's as well. I think she was using TDK, not sure. I will test with my Sony.

I will let you know how it goes!! Again, thanks a million!!!!

Spybot and Adaware are both free, get them at CNET, http://www.download.com . Run those besides a good anti-virus app. Make sure the InCD isn't loaded with Nero when you update it, interferes with movie backups. John gave you some sound advice, just clean the system, upgrade the firmware, and install the latest versions of all the software and give it another try. Slow to 4X and use good media.

An HP what? It often helps knowing the system and it's specs when diagnosing problems. Hopefully the PC has the resources to be doing DVD movie backups.

right now I am waiting for her to get Norton Internet Security. I got all viruses out. But don't want to go on the net until I have security. I'll let you guys know.
