For some reason, this disc is unrippable. This is the ONLY disc I have had problems with. You can't even reauthor the main movie. If you try to reauthor the main movie in DVD Shrink, there are no titles to choose from, only Title Menus (11:52) and VTS 1 (00:35). What baffles me is that there doesn't seem to be any special visible protection on the disc. CSS is normal:
At first, I thought it was a bad press, but more and more people are having a hard time with this particular release. Something is up with this disc, but I don't know what it is.

The problem is with decryption. Once ripped, encoding wouldn't be a problem to DVD5. If it's bad structure though, some burners might refuse the task. Appears DVD Decrypter will burn it, so should ImgBurn. Strange that an obsolete ripper outdid the best decrypter on the market. So those having problems, try DVD Decrypter and see if it works. DVDD is a freebie. I've been using DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD together to get "clean" source files for the longest. I have a preference for using HD files, I can check the source easily if I run into a problem and some software handles HD files better. I've yet to find a DVD I can't do a backup of. Maybe it's time someone contacts Elby. Usually though, they're ahead of the game, so make sure you have the latest version.
A simple read scan of the disc will tell if there is a physical flaw, even a bad press that can't be seen shows up on the read scan. I've had DVDs that would play but not record; replacement discs of the same would.

Whoa! Good call, paiger651. It worked for me as well doing it that way. That is very weird. It's also been awhile since I've used DVD Decrypter. See, it still serves a purpose for me. lol

DakotaFan,the wierd thing is if you take that copy you made and try to run it through Shrink it will act just like the original.You would think once you ripped it with DVD Decrypter you could run it through shrink to re-author main movie.Try that and see if you get the same results.Nero will allow you to make a copy of the copy though.

That's nothing out of the ordinary, I've seen Shrink note structural differences with other movie copies. A copy doesn't need to be transcoded again. All they need is copied, which most simple copy apps can do. Copies have no encryption and if on DVD5, they're already sized. It's just a matter of using the right software for a particular task.

Before I comment, I'm going to run out and get it so I can give it a good check. But most movies I get ripped get encoded with RB/CCE. To date I've not met one I couldn't rip. ;)

@paiger651:
DVD Decryptor can be set to rip main movie only. Then can use Shrink to get rid of unecessary sound tracts and subtitles.

Did "main movie" three different ways: DVD43 and Recode2, Shrink, and AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. I am in Region 1 as well.
EDIT: Copied backup with BurningROM "disc copy" feature...

Thanks teflonmyk. Much as I suspected. Is the movie any good? No need to mess with it now, if not. I got busy around the place and didn't make it in to town today, so didn't pick up Menace.

That far back, DVD Decrypter was probably up to date to handle the decryption. That was before they got heavily into the new encryptiosn as well. That's why I couldn't see AnyDVD having a problem with it. I wish I could get my hands on one of those problem discs. Teflonmyk proved it's not a universal problem.

What does the read scan look like for the disk. You can scan it with the free DVDInfoPro or with Nero's CD DVD Speed test utility.
