I have noticed a higher number of "bad pressings" with the original release some of the older movies that I have backed up. Of course, DVD ripping was nonexistent then. Older movies that have been re-released/remastered don't have these issues as much, though. I attribute it to the maturation of the whole DVD process...

EDIT: For example: My original Friday, Forrest Gump, and Player's Club gave me fits. Since I owned them, I just rented copies and ripped from them...
