Ok, here is my problem. Once upon a time, people used DVD X Copy to burn their movies. The problem with this software is that it did not shrink the movie to fit onto one disc. I have been able to use DVD Shrink to "re-author" all of my X-Copy leftovers except for one. I get an error @ 27% on the first disc saying Cyclic Redundancy Check.

I did a search for this error, and found ScubaSteve to be quite knowledgeable about this, so thats why I asked for him. However, if anyone else can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ok, here are my details:

Program: DVD Shrink (ReAuthor Mode)
Movie: Meet Joe Black
Burners: BenQ 1625 & 1640

I am getting this error during the read mode....meaning, it has nothing to do with the burning of the movie....its happening during the process of getting the movie ready to burn. As I mentioned, it happens everytime - always at 27%.

I should also note the disc looks PERFECT - no scratches - almost as if it were a brand new disc. Even with how perfect it looks, I still attempted another try after following your cleaning instructions I found on another thread.

What brand blank was the backup made on(or is this the original disc)? If it is an original you may have a bad press, return for exchange. If it is a backup, you may have a bad burn or used cheap media which has failed on you. Have you tried in both drives, and could you take it to a friends house to try?

Never heard of ScubaSteve...ScubaBud is around everynow and then...ScubaPete hasn't checked in in months.

He is probably referring to Scuba Pete who has developed some very good guides. CRC error generally mean the disk is stuffed.

Oh yeah, it was pete. Oops.

But yea, tried it in both drives. And the movie is 100% watchable. The media is TDK 4X disc.

@jaycjayz
Sounds like your media is degrading. TDK is not one of the better ones.
Check oout ScubaPete's guide for hard to rip DVD's - you can do this method for the back ups also. Decrypter is a great ripper for these type of discs.
If that doesn't work try isobuster.
Use quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and keep your burn speed around 4x.
Oh and your burner is more sensitive to the bad spots on a disc when ripping while the player may be able to pass over it.

ScubaPete is recovering from some serious medical problems and I'm hoping we will see him back soon.
