I've been have trouble backup a couple of DVDs released last year. After I start backup with reauthor. I doesn't do anything then give the famous redundancy check error associated with poor media. Since those are new DVDs and the problem at right the start. So I suspected that there is something going on.
So I tried DVD decrypter ripped it to HD, then using Shrink to backup. Unfortunately, Shrink can not even open ripped mainmovie+info file (doesnot recognize). Then I tried Decrypter ripping all file to HD. Shrink can open ripped files only partially. It can not display main title, only have a bunch of extras and menu items in the shrink browser window.
Additionally, in the DVD Decrypter, it did warn structural protection. Since I never used DVD Decrypter before, not sure this is usual.
Anybody had similar problems? How do you solve them?

Thanks.

Assuming you wish to continue to use Shrink with the new copy protections I would suggest something like AnyDVD. It is not free but has a 21 day free trial period so you can evaluate it. Just run AnyDVD in the backgroud (it is a 'driver-type' program) and use Shrink as usual. AnyDVD is available at;
http://www.slysoft.com.
For a free alternative to AnyDVD you can try DVDidle, it works for most but is not updated as often as AnyDVD.

regards

Thanks for the info, Kringles. Do you mind explain a little further the protection scheme?
I'll check out DVDIdle.

If you are going to rip a movie in Decrypter doing Main Movie only, you must open these files using the re-author mode tab, otherwise they will not open because the total structure of the file is not correct. After you open in reauthor mode and select title one of your file Shrink will create a new structure during its analysis and a new BUP file which will then let your burn your movie.

Why don't you ripped directly with DVD Shrink. Shrink should be able to handle any movie so far as long as your system & your drives are in peak condition. AnyDVD is a good asset should you run into problems.
