I read the FAQ on official site and even watched the video but it didnt help at all.

One of the pros was that you dont need to 'open' your PS2. Now that aint a problem, Im just confused cuz when i watched the video on the site the disc tray-cover thing was like... open, kinda. then the guy on the demonstration vid used the tool to open and close it.

well if the disc tray was like that then he obviously had to open up the PS2 to do it, which kills the point of "No need to open your PS2 with Swap Magic!"
[Watch the vid of you're unsure - at Official Site]

Anyway can't I just eject my disc tray, put in Swap magic, open tray again, put in my (import) game and play?? why do u need the slide tool anyway? that site is useless in helping people.

I cant test cuz I dont have my game yet, thanks to anybody who can help

the front piece on your tray just pops off. Every time you hit eject, the ps2 rechecks the security stuff and would know you put in a burnt game.

so what do I do?

Eject my disc tray, turn off PS2, and switch it back on again? and why do I need the slide Tool just for that? its basically opening the CD tray as normal??

Please can somebody give me detailed reply cause this doesnt make any sense.

The purpose of the slide tool is as sly said, to open the PS2's tray without alerting it that it has been opened. Whenever you hit reset or eject, the PS2 checks to see if the disc inserted is kosher, or if it's been swapped out for another. The slide tool bypasses this by forcing the tray open and then closed without triggering the eject mechanism that would alert the PS2 that the drive has been opened. That's why you can't simply place Swap Magic in your PS2 and hit eject when you want to swap, because it will then check to make sure the disc prior to the eject matches the disc after the swap.

You do have to remove the trays facade, but doesn't require you to pop open the case, just to unscrew the front of the tray as seen here:

Hope that helps.

hmm, that guide could've been alot more detailed, such as step 3. I dont get it

"Step 3 - Replace Screw ( This step is not necessary for SCPH-5000X )
1. It's time to replace the screw you removed before. Easily, reinstall it.
2. Now, the Slide-Tool is ready for use.
3. You will find the Front Cover can be reattached easily whenever you want!"

first it doesnt say where to reinstall the 'screw'
and second if it's the original place then whats the point of unscrewing in the first place?

god can't believe there isnt any fully detailed guide or video anywhere. hmm, anybody know another site which is EXTREMELY DETAILED or just very detailed, detailed enough for a newbie to understand??

Or just reply here posting a detailed step-by-step guide?

I don't have an older model PS2 on me to check the steps myself and then write out a further explained step-by-step method. BUT, the reason to remove the screw in the first step is to prepare the tray cover for removal. As it states, first you must remove the screw from the underside of the tray. (Note that if you have a version SCPH-5000x there is no screw to remove) Next you must find the small clips on the left and right side of the tray. They are pictured in that walkthrough, they're the circular objects with a small vertical slot in the middle. You now have to place your screwdriver in one of the clips slot and twist GENTLY. All you're trying to do is to release the clips hold of the tray cover on that side. While twisting gently, pull on the corresponding side of the tray cover to pull it loose. (IE: If you're doing the left clip, pull on the left side of the tray cover a little) After you've done this to both sides, the tray cover SHOULD now be off as shown in the first picture (Don't know why they showed the final product in the first pic, but whatever.)

Once the tray cover is off, they want you to reinstall that screw you originally removed back to where it came from, most likely for storage so you don't lose it, in case you want to reinstall the tray cover at a later date. That's basically it, the PS2 should be ready for use with the slide tool.

Now using the slide tool is a different story, I have no experience with sliding it in and catching the tray release mechanism etc., so you're on your own with that. I gave a nicely pictured step-by-step process, the only other thing I can try is to link some other topics on this forum. Or hopefully someone with further knowledge will come to your rescue. ;P

Good luck.

i still cant believe there's no video-installing for this?
(Unscrewing the screw, placing it, etc - basically the whole process)
Or a more detailed guide for this??

And btw if remove the front part of my CD tray (so I can use the slide tool) will I still be able to my ALL my other PS2 games just the same?

- thanks

Removing the tray cover does not effect gameplay of original PS2 titles. On finding more detailed instructions, I'm sorry, I've given the most detailed instructions with pictures I could find. Plus my further explanation. They don't get much more detailed. It's not that complicated, have you tried it yet? If you haven't I'm sure once you try, it'll be much easier then you think. Just follow the steps and video. If you get to a part your not sure of, just use tact and a gentle touch. And I guess ask more questions on here? I'm tapped out.

Sorry I couldn't help more.
