DVD Disc and fingernail polish

I use fingernail polish to paste my DVD labels to the disc. It sticks like glue and I have no problem playing my disc. The label doesn't come off in the player, it plays smoothly.

You will most assuredly be getting several posts to your thread letting you know that DVD's and labels don't mix and are not recommended here on aD.

I'd have to agree on the label thing, but I would have to suggest it is not the label and rather the media itself.
As I can play movies over and over with labels affixed and they eventually wear out as does cd media. I've had the same effect with media I haven't put labels on. Played over and over it eventually starts to skip and checkerboard. I use ritek 2-4x DVD-R [I like to burn nice and slow with no compression, (if possible). ie. main movie only]
I'm a 500 club member with the specs below and have found the problems to be wear and tear. One man's opinion though

Wear and tear doesn't happen to DVD media. They are not magnetic tape that can wear thin or lose it's magnetic properties to use and elements. DVD media that doesn't play or has problems playing can only have a dye issue or has become unbalanced by putting labels on it. The opinion of hundreds of members suggest the same.

I respect you as I see a lot of people refer to you for your assistance. However, I'll agree to disagree. As you can see our specs aren't that too far off in similarity. I've never had a bad burn, CRC due to burn or media. I've done the printing and not printing thing with labels and as I stated in my last post have had the same outcome with both. I can play the movies fine, re-backup, re-rip and everything, but it seems the more used the movie gets the more degradation takes place. I handle all of the movies my kids watch, and primarily it's their movies which are the problem. They watch the same movie over and over and over. After a while it just seems to start flaking. I've tried all different types of media and wound up leveling off on either ritek or verbs. It seems the cheesier the media, the faster the loss over time. Anyhoo, I wish I could agree but until I am able to get my hands on professional media which I can scratch the living H out of and play the daylights out of like store bought movies. I will have to say, it's the media.

Did you ever think that because of becoming unbalanced, the disks will start to disintegrate?
Also, it has nothing to do with specs of a PC to compare ones knowledge but by what one has learned from members sharing their opinions. Like always everyone may have one opinion that is different than another, but what does hold true is usually the majority rule in the final opinion.
For anyone else reading this thread, please look at the links provided as these are only a few of hundreds of links on why NOT to label DVD media as apposed to one or two members that disagree. In the end, each member can make up their own mind based on the thoughts of others.

Hey, don't take it personally. As you said it's ones opinion. And, as I said. I hold your opinion in high regard. Has nothing to do with you, or the links provided. I'm sorry if you took offense, as I was not pointing fingers or trying to lead anybody down an uncertain path. The specs thing you point out is also misunderstood. I am only stating my specs are similar to yours. Not that different specs will make for a different outcome. We're all here to learn and to pick up pointers. Hope you understand.

In no way did I take it personnel, I never do, and I totally agree with you on a persons right to their opinion whether a newbie or aD addict.

But I also feel the need to make sure that anyone who does read this thread base any decision they decide to make on more then just one member?s opinion, whether it be mine or yours. The only way to accomplish this is to back up what one states with many opinions from other members such as in the links that I provided. I hope that this clears up what my original intent was and is. :)

I just had to reply to this, I think the fingernail polish is a unique idea. I would not try it considering there is a certain amount of heat buildup in a DVD player, and eventually fingernail polish gets old and does begin to flake like bad paint. But got to admit it is unusual :)

For what it's worth, the dvd's I backed up and affixed labels to, before I got a printer capable of printing on the media directly, will not pay in my portable dvd player nor will they play in my notebook computer. They will play with limited success in my standalone set-top dvd player. I will be making new back-ups to replace the dvd's that have labels (and tossing the labeled ones).
I wish I knew about this forum before I affixed labels to anything. Personally, I would have followed the advice of the masses on this one.
