I have been using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for a couple of years with no problems. I was sick for a while and so I have not burned any DVDs for over 6 months. When I started back, I keep getting an I/O error. I did a search and installed ImgBrn but I get same error. I also have Dvd43 running in the back ground. The error message in part says:

I/O Error!
Device: [0:0:0] TDK DVDW880N 1.31(F:) (USB)
ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

The ImgBurn log keeps doing this:

I 12:45:28 CDB Interpretation: Test Unit Ready
I 12:45:29 [0:0:0] TDK DVDRW880N 1.31 (F:) (USB)
I 12:45:29 CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
I 12:45:29 CDB Interpretation: Test Unit Ready
I 12:45:30 [0:0:0] TDK DVDRW880N 1.31 (F:) (USB)
I 12:45:30 CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
I 12:45:30 CDB Interpretation: Test Unit Ready

I got the same error with DVD Decryptor. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I am really excited about getting back into backup mode!

The I/O error is caused by Sony ARccOS? protected DVDs, since shrink and decrypter are no longer updated, they can't crack the encryption alone.

DVD43 is not updated often enough to keep up with the copy protection on some of the newly released DVD, so I suggest you try anydvd instead. Anydvd is constantly updated and works much better than dvd43, it runs in the backround helping shrink or decrypter get your backup.

Uninstall dvd43 and install anydvd in it's place, it comes with a 21 day free trial before you have to buy it. Once installed use shrink as you normally would and let anydvd silently do the rest.

get it here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

Please, the guy do have a burning related I/O error. What should AnyDVD solve in this case???

Not every I/O error is related to copy protections.

Just my cent.

WTF... You cant use any HTML tags in here...

Try updating your drives firmware:
You can use ImgBurn to get you to the correct firmware:

Tools > Drive > Check for Firmware Updates

That should take you here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

Down near the bottom you can find your drive:
================================================
TDK DVDRW880N - 1.33, 1.34, 1.36, 1.37
(Known firmware: 1.31, 1.33)
You can find RPC-1 firmware on The Dangerous Brothers firmware page.
OEM NEC ND-2500A
RPC-2
===============================================
Make sure you are using good media as well, Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden etc. What are you using?

Make sure you have a good connection...this looks like an external drive. Try and play a movie or CD with it.

Thanks for the info. I updated the firmware but I'm still have int he same issue. When I treid to play a DVD it would not work but I am able to record and read data, not movies. Do I need to download a DVD decoder for Windows Media PLayer in order to record now? Any other suggesttions? Thanks.
