Ok, I don't remember the modchip I have, as my uncle go it for me.
My problem is, that whenever I try to play any of my orignals (Bought in the USA for like $50) my PS2 doesn't play it. It says "please insert a Playstation 2 disc) Now i remeber when we got it modded, the guy modding it said, if you want to play a DVD moive (I guess orignal games are considered as DVD's) u have to so a dpecial thing. I forget what he did, he did sommething like holding the reset button, then opeing the drive, then reloading it, or something among those lines. PLEASE HELP, I have to like restart the system 100 times before the game will work....Thanks

Are you sure that I need to clean my laser? I mean the original game will work after like 50 reset's to the system. The system has no problem playing back-ups tho...

exactly! but When I got the system modded he said, if you want to play a DVD moive, u have to do a special button combo, which he then demonstrated, which I sadly forgot. I think if I can do that combo right, then maybe the original's will work right...because technically the original's are DVD moive's...?

So do you guy's have any idea? Is there maybe some sort of a button (reset, open) combo I need to do for the originals....eg: Press and reset until red light appears, press open. insert disc, press reset, disc tray automatically will close, game will start...something like that I just forget what it was exactly

Try opening the disc tray, putting the original in, hit reset, then it should play......not sure but my works that way. Another thing you can try is, keeping the tray open, go to browser screen in the ps2(or something like that, where you see your Mem. Cards, then close the tray, and a little disc icon should appear.....i believe that should work.....but again im not a professional.

Why not ask your uncle what chip he got for you? Magic makes several chips, it could be anyone of them. Does your PS2 say anything when you boot games on it like Matrix or Toxic?

Right on the boot logo.
Toxic OS: for DMS 4 Pro or Pro SE
Matrix Infinity boot:
These are common modchips. The Matrix boot logo is the one on the left side of this photo.

Well I'm not positive. There really isn't any way to tell without asking the person who installed it or opening up your PS2. Your laser could also be on the blink. Does it load backups at all? If it's a slim PS2, you'd need a laser fix installed with it. If there was no laser fix installed your laser is probably fried.

Yo see, niether of us acually know...we got it done while on vacation in India, the guy just took the ps2 and put in some sort of chip. Whenever I boot back uups, it just goes straight to the game, no screen, no nothing, just plays the game as if it were anytihng else. But for some reasons whenever I try playing the original it say's Please Insert a PS2 Format disc (red screen) I press reset about 100 times, before the game acually works...any idea's I think it's some button comobo. that I need to press, because I remeber the dude telling me that if I want to watch a DVD Moive on the modded system (Original is basically a DVD Moive) I need to press some button combo consisting of the Reset, and Eject button, I just forget what he said. I think he said something like first press reset, the system starts, place the game/moive in, press and hold rest until the red light goes on (standby mode) the tray will automatically close, then press reset again, and it should work...I tried this combo...no luck...maybe im getting something wrong...

Sorry that's too vague. It could be a solder point came undone or something. I don't know too much about soldering, so maybe someone who does can help you out. Without knowing what chip you have, there's little I can do. If you can find out what chip you have, then maybe there's a chance. Btw, I doubt a little shop in India installed a Matrix Infinity or DMS 4 in your PS2, it's probably some POS clone chip.

for playing movies/ps1 on a modded ps2 (some of them) you have to put the disc in, turn off the system, then turn it on but keep the reset button pressed for like 15-30 secs (some have to be pressed longer) then play normally, but if you wanna play backups i think you gotta do that again. try it and get back to us

Hi, I`ve just bought a chipped ps2 that arrived this morning that has exactly the same problem. If I put in a copied game it just starts, but not with an original. I tried this and it works. Hold down the start button on the controller and keep it held down while you put in an original game. Let go of the start button and on the screen a memory card and a disc asppears. Move over to the disc using the controller and hit the reset button and the original game starts up. I`ve just got to figure out why I only get a black and white picture instead of colour.

black and white is most likely from playing a PAL game on NTSC, or check your wires to the tv.
