whaat i did notice was when you play a dvd it seems to not have any pirate gaem workf or a while but now its like nomore forever .my ps2 is the one with the network adapter ..its not a old old model it should be like two versions before the slim one it think. now the mod chip is kinda the same case witht he guy from india or who went there.i went to pakistan got it chipped there,. i got no hd in it. and i got no mod chip load up screen. i just got the normal ps2 one..so can someone help me..is there a way to reset the mod chip or somethng in order to make the chip work withmy pirate games again..

Refer to pirated games as "backups", you'll stick around the forums a lot longer. It sounds like a case of crappy media. What's the Media ID of the discs you're using?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

well i think i forgot to meantion that all the games or most of which i tested cause i wasn playing them workied.. the ones i burned after i d/led worked without any problems...the ones i bought there were like 1 or 2 out of 30 games that needed to be reset like2-4 times but that was it..now none of them work at all..the last thing which was 2 days ago worked were my backed up copy of harvey birdman disc1 and then my copy of ace combat 5 which i "got in pakistan" then i tried god of war to show some friends and that didnt worka nd then anything else that ive tried hasnt worked apart from dvds or orignals

What's the Media ID? It's important.

well, its definetly not your media considering its Taiyo Yuden.

It could be a problem with your modchip, it might have burned out or a solder point might have undone, maybe something along those lines, i really dont know.....

If the regular games work it cant be your lase, so cross that out....It has to be a defect or something with the Modchip...

Is there a way I can get a tutorial, preferabbly with pictures, to be 100% sure that I know what I'm doing when messing around with the mod chip?

Could be a laser/mobo issue. Do not attempt to play with it yourself, take it to a pro and see what they say.

Well quite frankly, you got lucky. You could easily have compounded the problem and butchered your PS2. Noobs reading this, do not attempt to dissamble your PS2, unless you're an experienced solderer and you know exactly what you're doing.

does it matteR? its working so dont screw with it, but noobs shouldnt do what he did... cuz like Tokijin said, you could easily screw ur ps2 .. (like i did, i ruined the thing that spins the dvds/cds therefore my ps2 was thrown away *fixing it costs more than the ps2 it self lol)

Hey acedking, I think i know what ur trying to say here. modded PS2s in asia can read back-up dvd games. the method on playing a dvd movie and psone games requires you to press the reset button until it switches to standby mode. in stand-by mode, you have to press again and hold the reset button for about 5secs or before the browser menu pops-up. that's the way of making modded PS2 in asia to play back-up psone games and dvd movies. but it will normally play a back-up ps2 game once you insert it so there is no need to apply the said method for ps2 games.

So i think there is no problem w/ ur ps2 except that it can't play original ps2 games. dont try messing with it. that's a normal modded ps2 coz that is available in asia.

@ sporty98 Well it should make you a little nervous. If you have no soldering skills, you have no business installing a chip in your PS2. It's a delicate procedure, and the slightest mishap can destroy important pathways on your PS2 mobo, rendering it inoperable. Pay a pro to do it. Whats $40 compared to getting a new PS2?

26. Q. I'm in the market for a modchip or premodded console. What are some reputable sites I can order from?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/251223 In addition http://www.modchip.com and http://www.norcalmods.com are supposed to be reliable. http://www.Xmodds.com is another quality mod site. If you're interested in a premod or modchip, be sure to order from one of these high quality sites.

I have some soldering experience and have worked on Portable dvd player pc boards.

However, Where I work at. They make pc boards and build them everyday for a intergrator. A control box. They have a machine that puts the chips on the boards.

There is 2 people whi solder and build boards buy hand every day.

I spoke with one today about helping me or paying them to do it for me. And it sounds like 1 of them if interested in doing.

They have alot of good soldering irons, very small tips and small soldering wire and more.

I use to solder and built wahl clipper cordless hair cutter for a living.

Ones own perspective of ability varies. Meaning when you get to very fine motor skill, where you are dealing with very tiny gaps between circuits and chips.

I magnifiying glass is a plus. Work has a lighted one and easy to adjust.

Soldering PC boards and the PS2 are very different things. If you have any doubts at all, send it to a pro. I've given you my recommendation, the choice is yours. Cheers!

It took me about 2 days of solid work trying to find out what modchip i had... just take off the top and remove the metal top.. (looks like a metal box) vertain things will require a little force to take off but it wont break... try not to wear sucks when doing it and put some rubber underneath the Ps2 so you wont fry anything by shocking it..look and see what it is called then look on the Internet to find out what it is... WATCH OUT!!! WHEN you take off the lid that the silver wire dosent come out.. you can put it back in but just try not to because it is extra work. Like I said find it and write down certain parts of the chip to remembar and then look it up in Google... should help ya there. Mine is a Ripper 3.1 for my ps2.

I pwn myself all the time...damn

In general this is not recommended. You could seriously damage your PS2 if you go rummaging around your mobo with absolutely no idea what you're doing. You could easily knock a solder point loose or damage the eject/reset harness. Again noobs reading this do not attempt this. The best way to know what chip you get is to read my Modchip FAQ, (the link's in my sig) do your own research, and order a quality chip from a reputable modder. There won't be guessing about clone chips and recreation sessions wasted inside the PS2. I'm not pointing the finger at anybody in particular, (a very small percentage of people actually do their homework before getting a chip), but this can all be alleviated by doing the proper research beforehand. Otherwise you'll end up with God knows what chip installed by inbred criminally insane sodomite's like this guy:

Yeah I agree with Tokijin, If you arent very good with electronic stuff then I wouldnt advies it... It is also something that ou cant do in 2 hours... you need to be VERY careful with what you remove and what you unscrew... I didnt mess up my Ps2 when I did it but I also have a older 1 (more room) and those are way bigger, those little ones I have NO clue what to do with them.

But Tokijin seems to know what he is doing (no sarcasm intended) So I would take his advice :)

But you never know maybe if you try it then you may get a fixed, On the other hand you could also end up destroying your Ps2 (which wouldnt be very good). There are risks involved but is your own choice. If I were you I would listen to Tokijin.

I pwn myself all the time...damn
