Need help fixing problem with scenes repeating

Hello,
I've had my iLO DVD Recorder (04 model with harddrive) for several months. The last 3 times I've edited out the commercials from a TV movie, I've had a continous problem when I play back the edited movie. Each place where there was a commercial, the frames will play extremely slow for about 3 frames. Then it will play the scene normally for about 3 or 4 seconds. Then it will repeat that scene again and then continue normally until the next spot where I deleted the commercial. It's doing this pretty consistently at after each break where I deleted the commercial.
Can you help me by telling me what is causing this and how do I fix it? Thanks very much.

What are you using to edit? How are you doing it? Are the IFO and BUP files being re-written?

That's a standalone recorder. Google for it as an iLo DVDR04. I'll leave this one to you. There's hacked firmware for it and all.

Thanks for your reply. I'm editing out the commercials using the Browser menu on the ilo. I play it in the Edit section, stop it at the exact point at the beginning of the commercial, split it. Go back into the second half, scroll to the end of the commercial, split it. Then I go into the browser and delete the middle part - the commercial. Then I go back into edit again and merge the first part with the last part.
This method has always worked perfectly until just recently. Now it always stutters right after where I deleted the commercial, plays a scene and then plays the exact scene again.
I don't know what those files are that were mentioned in the reply post and I do have the latest hacked firmware. I have never defragged ... only copied about 30 movies so far.
Hope someone can help.

Those files mentioned are files that make up a movie. ON a DVD you have a VIDEO_TS folder which contains VOB, BUP, and IFO files. That's how you see them in file form on a PC. Working with a standalone recorder the way you do, you would not see those files unless they are transferred to a PC. You're just using controls to edit out visual images you view on your TV or monitor. I do my editing on PC, so I'll leave this to those familiar with the equipment. This question would be more suited to Video Recorder section than the Newbie section.

I also have been reading other forums to see if I could find a similar problem. I'm sad to report that I've come up empty.
I, like brobear, record on Re-Writable discs and then do my editing on the PC.

Good suggestion. Without a user interface to a system like the PC, I get lost.

True, I download files to my PC hard drive, do my editing on the PC and then burn to disc.

Have two ilo RHD04 units, no troubles.
Can you do this and, I'm assuming that we are refering to the HDD.
It would seem from your post that your method is correct.
Record something for about 3 min.
Play this for about 1 1/2 min than split.
Play that for about 30 sec and split
Erase the 30 sec thumbnail
mearge the 1 1/2 and 1 min segments
Play the 2 1/2 m1n thumbnail It should be fine with a gap for the removed part. there [might] be a very slight, quick pause at the point of the split. there should be no slowdown or repeating.
If there is and To be sure the HDD is working OK.
Make sure the HDD does not have any programs on it you want.
Go to tools and erase [compleatly] the HDD this will also format the HDD, and repeat the above
Hopefully this will correct the problem.
DO NOT DEFRAG the hdd at any time you may think this is correct but almost always results in loss of programs and HDD problems
I do not know any 04 that has correct timming on a split both mine are some 2 sec late, some report as much as a min. You might also check this
The machine may be defective and I know you have used this unit for some time but check your prociedure to be sure.

This doesn?t seem to be what is mentioned in your orig pos. I did not experence a slowdown or repeat -- [But]
In case it might help
I don?t usually edit commercials but did on a recording of a movie that I wanted to keep,
Edit was on the HDD and than copied to a disk.
While playing, the unit was stopped than restarted .the wrong button pressed and this resulted in using the chapter return to get back
The part returning to was just a little [very little] past the area I wanted and I left it. The sound and picture were ok but there was a quick pause than sound and picture were out of sync for some 5 sec This also occurred in two other sections of the program. but only if I used the chapter return/forward control
The chapter marks were set to 5 min and I found the chapter marks were right at the areas I had split and merged the files.
I went back about 6 sec from the chap mark and Put in another one, than returned to the qrig chap mark and removed it The program worked fine with no sync or hesitation with either chapter or forward/reverse.
I can only surmise that when splitting and merging, One should be aware of chapter marks.

I tried your suggestion of inserting chapter marks before deleting commercials. It takes a little practice to get it right, but I am having far less problems with repeating scenes.
Odd, though. I took the latest DVD I was having serious problems playing due to freezing and repeated scenes and played it on my DVD/VHS combo recorder. The DVD played fine. So, apparently, my Sony DVD player somehow is sensitive to the commercial splits. I can't see how it can tell since I split them on the hard drive and then copied the finished product to the DVD, but there seems to be a problem with it. I'll try the one that I just split using your technique and see how it does with that one.

Forgot to ask you. How do you manage to remove a chapter mark at the right spot? I make it go to the mark, but it plays so quickly after it gets there, I have to guess where to stop it so I can remove it. Maybe I need to read the manual again?

I don't belive or meant that a chap mark should be inserted at a commercial removel as this might cause a problem of the kind mentioned,
Your question turned on a light. I will now insert a chap mark at a commarcial split but back about 10 sec from the split area, Than jump to the next mark. If it could be a problem I remove it
Originally I did as below
I went to the orig chap mark than went back a few sec as I said and added a new one. Went foward to the old mark (Short jump} and deleted it.
I would think you can deleate a specific chap mark anywhere within that chap mark area
