Help with Volume on CD burning please.

I transfer special info on CD's and then play it a classroom. The volume is not high enough for a classroom, I need higher volume. So how can I do that. Can I use an audio program to increase the volume prior to burning? What do I do to burn it a high volume so that when I play it in the class on a portable player I can have enough of a volume for my students to hear without distortion. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Its a lecture on the internet that I download and burn on my CD for my class. Its in MP3 format on the net. My CD player is not MP3 compatable, so I need regular files to play on my CD. I use Nero to burn the CD. They play very well, in my car on all the CD players, its just that in a large class room the volume is not high enough. I would like to run it thru some sort of audio program to increase the vol before burning. I have Sony sound forge, also have goldwave, do any of them help and how?

Which program do you use to play the audio cd on the computer? Programs like Windows Media Player and Winamp has a gain adjustments. The only problem with increasing the gain is the inherent increased signal distortion (though, not audible if mixed/EQed properly with said aforementioned media players.)

Effect -- Amplify
6Db click OK
If thats not loud enough do it again !
File -- Save !

you say if not loud enough do it again. Do you mean do the new saved file again with 6DB or d othe original file with say 10DB? Can I use any audio program to achieve the same result?

Suggesting you take it to school now -- and see if you can have it loud enough for your classroom ! THEN if not you can redo it to the same file again but this time using 3DB at a time till you satisfied !
Keep your original intact for safeguarding !

I tried the audacity program. Did exactly as you said, but I could not get OK button to work after changing the DB to 6.0. Why?

Tick allow clipping in that box -- ! Doing this confirms that your original file is already at its maximum ! I would look at the player you have in the school --- there must be something wrong the way its hooked up ! Allowing clipping is'nt good -- means that some portions of the MP3 will be distorted !

I tested it at home and really works very nicely. Thanks ever so much. I will try it in the classroom this weekend. This software seems easier to use the Sony Soundforge. Also did not notice as much distortion either, Soundforge seems to distort it more. Perhaps its me the user...not enough knowledge in these matters...learning quickly though. Again thanks..will let you know how it went.

SoundForge is a PRO sound editor -- trust me it is much better then audacity BUT not easier to use! If I had known you had SoundForge , I would have given you the explanation for it ! I do not use Audacity <<smiles>>
