I must agree that when Costco has their buy one get one free sale on TDK I can't resist. I have had the TTG01 and TTG02 varieties, use three difernt burners, and have not had a problem. Compatibility with set top players has bee very good as well.
Other users (Doc TY-Kivory666) do not like this media, but it has been good to me when price was too good to pass up.

well, you nailed it right on the dot, but, it's MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION on TDK, everyone has their own preferences of different types of media...if it's been working well for you, especially at such a good price, when you get one free; i can do/say absolutely NOTHING in regards to future purchases :)

seems like many members here KNOW what i "prefer" and what i don't...and that's all good, whatever works well for YOUR individual setup, please, by all means, continue using it~ :)

@thelox714:
The TTG01 4X DVD-R burned more than two years ago with a NEC 1300 are still working without a problem. In fact I have never had one of the TTG01 or TTG02 go bad out of approx #200 total.
Of course I like TY (MIJ Fuji), Verbatim (MCC), and Sony better, but sometimes the deal is too good to pass up. It's not like were talking about GQ, Princo, or CMC.

Hey, I bought that same deal from Costco and got TTHO2 (-R) and CMCMAG (+). So far 10 good burns, but will they crap out on me down the road?

I'll chime in too:)
With the TDK I had the same experience as StanH. Bought some a few years ago and burned them with the same NEC130. I just scanned a few of them and they still score in the 90's. With TDK MIJ I think you can still get some very decent media. The Taiwanese are the ones that are problematic. Actually the same discussion is taking place at VideoHelp.

@81chris
For the CMC's - in my experience yep they will crap out on you down the road. You may even get a few or more burn errors w/ them.

81chris,

If you can take those TDK dvd+r's back and exchange them for the -r's or some other good quality media. Beware of TDK +r media in the future.

Thanks guys, so the TTHO2's are OK then? They seem fine so far, but if they will skip later on I may as well take them back too.

I have only used the -R for max compatability as my burner does not booktype +R.

As i said in the 3rd post on this topic, there is nothing wrong with the TDK 8x or 16x +R media. My 8x are caewp13 and the 16x are cdmwp01

I have two burners, a nec3540ag (cheap OEM writer) and an old 4x Pioneer 106d. Have burned hundreds of tdks on both writers and not one coaster. I recently had to upgrade the firmware on the nec to accommodate the 16x tdks but set it to 12X to write to just to be on the safe side. Even though I did burn a couple of discs at 16x with perfect results, I'll just play it safe with my writer.

All the naysayers that harp about the poor quality of the tdks prob just have their own issues to resolve (either with firmware; dirt; inferior writers; poor software; insufficient thermal solutions; liars; ect ect ect......

To add to my previous post, I found a couple of TDK disks that coded out as Ritek G04, just scanned one to see. It gave me a quality score of 78%. This disk was burned in december 03.

You should get better results at slower burn speeds, that is the gneral rule it was probably just a small irregularity in the disk or maybe you were using your computer while burning?

Is it likely that these TTG02 Datawrite disks are any good. Over at videohelp it seems that Datawrite are never good but on nomorecoasters.com the TTG0x is listed as 1st class media.

@drag2f2f

i wouldn't PERSONALLY recommend them, and being that creaky is over in the UK too, i'm willing to bet he would not recommend them either~ :)

yes, i'm biased towards certain media, but everyone has their own opinions on the matter...if you take my advice, i would avoid them.

Where are you coming up with caew13 and cdmwp01? Who are the manufactures of your TDK DVD+R media? You might have got lucky and got some made by ricohjpn which imo is good media but there is a 50% chance or better that you will get cmc mag garbage which if they don't cause you problems from the start they will more than likely have playback issues in the long run.
