Hi Gang
A new type of encryption? As soon as I try to Shrink the movie "Broken Flowers", it vanishes? I managed to copy one file, the first one, and that's it? Is there an encryption right at the beginning of this movie? I tried "DvdFab" and it seems to have decrypted the movie but when running it through "Dvd Shrink" the error message appeared almost immediately? "An error was encountered and cannot continue..."
Any suggestions?

do you have DVD 43 or AnyDVD?, preferably AnyDVD. I used DVD Decrypter then Shrink and Decrypt again to backup this movie. I also had AnyDVD running in the background. AnyDVD has a 21 day free trial before purchase. Got it 2 months ago, been problem free ever since. The DVD43 is free. I had trouble with that one tho.

Hello Chilwill
I tried AnyDVD and it crashed my computer. I apparently have something loaded that doesn't agree with "Anydvd". So back to square one. Don't think that I'm going to get "Broken Flowers".
Thanks for your reply. ronnies

Try reauthor mode or insert still image in the unreferenced materials. See if that works.

Hello Locoeng: Unfortunately I'm not familiar with doing those items. I'm still trying to grasp this. Most of the time, just using "Dvd Shrink" works fine. This new ( for me ) encryption that cuts everthing off right from the start does not respond to "Dvd Decrypter" or "DvdFab". Thats about as far as i've gone with capturing movies.
Thanks again Locoeng for your input, ronnies

Ive heard AnyDVD doesn't get along with DVD43, if you happen to have that already on your computer. If you do have DVD43 uninstall it.

Ran into saverals discs lately that had that problem. CloneDVD2 with AnyDVD.latest in background cruised right thru them. I have been trying that first, then shrink if that doesnt work. Seems you need them both to get everything. Haven't run into one yet I didn't get!!!

@ronnies,

I have Broken Flowers and was able to duplicate the error you received. I used shrink and tried a full backup of the movie, at about 1% into the analysis I received a handle error which stopped the analysis.

I was able to get my back up using shrink alone (with out anydvd running), I let shrink perform the pre-analysis, but instead of a full movie backup I chose to re-author the movie. When in re-author mode I draged the main movie (title 1) over to the left side and clicked on the compression tab, unchecked everything but the AC3 5.1 channel english audio selection. The backup completed without any problems.

Here is a basic guide on how to re-author using shrink:

http://www.dvdshrink.info/reauthor_basic.php

Hope this helps.

johnI123: I have tried "Re-Author" and I got to 62% and then came a "redundancy error". I think there must be something wrong with the disc? Anyhow - here are my steps on my "re-Author" attempt:
1) Went into "Dvd Shink" and chose "Re-Author"
2) In "Devices" I found my movie " Broken Flowers" which I double clicked and brought up the page with "Main Movie" on it.
3) I dragged "Title 1" the main movie, into the left side.
4) I highlighted "dvd" on my first try - no good, then I highlighted "Main Movie" on my second try.
5) I then clicked on "Backup"
6) It went thru it's routine and to 62% to Error message "Recyclic etc".
7) I found out that you couldn't use "Dvd Decrypter" and "Re-Author" - just experimenting... Thanks anyway ronnies

ronnies,
If you're getting a redundancy error, it could mean that the disk is dirty or you didn't uncheck all the extra sruff, give it a good cleaning and lets try it again.

First run shrink and goto edit>>>preferences>>>click on the file I/O tab and uncheck the enable burning with nero option. close shrink.

Follow these steps:
1) Insert the movie in the drive and actually play it for about 5 seconds, then stop play.

2) Run shrink, and choose open disk then press ok, let it perform it's pre-analysis until it completes.

3) At this point choose reauthor, find title 1 on the right side of the window, click and drag title 1 to the left side, shrink will do a very quick analysis.

4) Click on the compression tab (make sure compression setting is set to automatic), uncheck all the boxes you see here except the AC3 5.1 channel english selection.

5) Click on the backup tab, choose to save target as "ISO Image File and burn with Decrypter", then choose the location where you want the file stored, decrypter will look for it there and automatically launch to burn the image to disk, if you have only one drive decrypter will ask you to insert the media when required.

make all your other choices, choose a write speed of 4x with decrypter.

6) Press ok, the process should begin at this point, keep in mind that when the analysis and encoding is complete, decrypter will launch and ask for media. When the process is complete you should have a playable backup.
