Hello everyone, i'm new at this and what i want to know is what programs i need to get to be able to copy DVD's and get the best quality. Right know i only have Nero and the burner i'm using is the Directdvd by sony.

AnyDVD would be a good addition to Nero, it runs in the background stripping protection while Nero compressed the video. A 21 day free trial can be found here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/

Some other good programs to have in your arsenal are:

1. DVD Decrypter-excellent ripper/burner, but no longer updated.
2. DVD Shrink-excellent ripper/encoder, but no longer updated.
3. DVDFab Decrypter-Ripper, still current.
4. Imgburn-Excellent burner.

The thing about all of these programs is that they are free, with the exception of AnyDVD.

i was thinking of buying AnyDVD and DVDclone from sly, are these updated. I have Nero 6 would that work also.

IMO the AnyDVD and Clone DVD combo are the best out there. AnyDVD is frequently updated to handle anything new coming out. For Nero you'll need recode if you need compression (movies over 4.38 gig which most are). If you have the full version of Nero you'll have recode. I use AnyDVD w/ clone or recode - like both.
I would still download the progs LOCOENG suggested - they are always good to have. Decrypter is a great ripper for those scratched/impaired discs. The guides you should checkout too lots of good enuf in them!!

Yes AnyDVD is regularly updated, but you can try before you buy...like I said there is a 21 day trial on both AnyDVD and CloneDVD so you won't get anything you don't want. My suggestion would be to try all of the freeware for a month or so, and then try AnyDVD...then choose which ever one works best for you.
