I followed Scuba Pete's instructions to use DVD Decrypter to rip a DVD which I've had trouble ripping the conventional way (with DVD Shrink).... I followed these instructions:
I'd like you to check your DVD Decrypter's settings. First, it should be version 3.5.1.0. Go to "Tools", "Settings", set everything to "Default". Then in the "General" tab change, "Removal Method" from "Normal" to "Aggressive", in "File Mode", "tick" Remove PUO's." For ripping in the "ISO Read Mode", "tick" "Remove PUO's" there also. in the "CSS" tab, under "CSS Cracking Method", choose "Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange" and "On Failure" choose "Yes". . IMPORTANT: In the "I / O" tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box which says, "Ignore read errors". This is an excellent setting for dealing with scratched discs which may cause ripping problems.

Some people like ripping with DVD Decrypter using the "File" "Mode" BUT, especially for episodel-type DVD's, I feel that nothing can beat ripping the DVD using the "ISO", "Read", "Mode". After you've ripped your disc using the "ISO" "Read" "Mode", open DVD Shrink go to File", "Open Disc Image " to locate your ISO image - after allowing DVD Shrink to load up the image, just process it as usual then burn to disc using your burner of choice.

I still was not able to rip using this method. The log of the rip from DVD Decrypter is:

W 21:09:06 Failed to read Sector 697056 - No Seek Complete

The "Failed to read Sector xxxxxx - No Seek Complete" continued to show up for the next sequential sectors before I stopped and cancelled the ripping since it didn't seem it was going to finish.

Can anybody give me another method of trying to rip this DVD? It is a commercially produced DVD of a health seminar I attended.

Thanks.

hi
looking at the error report there is no copyright protection on the disc so should copy no problem. Make sure the disc is not scratched or damaged & is clean. hope this helps

Even though it isn't copyright protected there seem to be some "problem" spots on the discs. Out of 4 disks I have, 3 of them all seem to have "problem" areas. Since I borrowed these from a friend I can't really return them, so I'm trying to figure out some way to copy the discs even though there are these little problem areas. The discs aren't scratched at all but seem to have some small irregularity/blotches on the bottom surface of the discs.

Instead of DVDdecrypter, I recommend you try unsing DVDFab decrypter. DVDFab is alot more forgiving when it comes to analysing disks that are scratched or have problem areas on them causing read errors.

get it here:

Here is a guide on use:
