Many threads popping up on this one. I used AnyDVD w/ CloneDVD - did full back up and 'unchecked' most of the special features - piece of cake. CloneDVD also has a 21 day trial - try it you may like it!
Have you tried ripping with the latest dvdfab decrypter and then processing thru shrink?
Here's a link to another thread for more help:

Try inserting a still image in the unreferenced materials or if you don't want the menus or special features, just backup the main movie via Reauthor mode.

What does the error say in Shrink? I did this movie with AnyDVD running in the background and used CloneDVD2 for the transcoder. Came out fine. I will turn off AnyDVD and see if i can rip it with DVD Decrypter and VOB Blanker for the protection removal. Will post back the results. As long as AnyDVD is updated, you should be able to get this one no sweat.

I have DVD Fab Express and Shrinks. Any thoughts on if these programs will cover backing up Flight Plan? Have VOB Blanker as well but never have used it. My free time has ran out on Any DVD and Clone2.

Flightplan is a tricky one-region 1 and Full Screen.

I had a heck of a time. Dvd shrink and nero alone can't handle it alone. It would let you do the quick analyzation, then freeze up when trying to re-author-just after you dragged main movie over. Then a message that says: "Do you want windows to send an error message to microsoft". I then kicked in Anydvd in the background and couldn't get it to analyze. After trying dvd decrypter-no luck, wouldn't do anything. I also got a couple of crc errors when I clicked backup.

I thought I had her when I finally got it to do the quick analyzation and tried backing up entire disc with dvd shrink. I left it for auto shutdown. I woke up later and had an error message saying something about running out of memory.

I then tried it again, anydvd activated and using dvd shrink. It finally let me re-author.

It took 5 or 6 times, but anydvd 5.8.3.1 and dvd shrink finally got through it. If it fails, close out of dvd shrink and try again.

I did this one using VobBlanker, it blanked out the bad cell in VTS_03 which causes a 7 second pause before the movie that players just can't get by. Then ran it through Shrink and burned, Main Movie only and it plays fine.

I did this movie with Clone DVD w/AnyDVD running in the background. I had no problem at all, doing it this way.
First, I tried it with Shrink and AnyDVD, and got the "Out of Memory" error.
That's when I went to Clone DVD. I still use an older version of Clone DVD. As long as it works, I'll use it. I'll upgrade when I NEED to.............
Good luck!

i also used AnyDVD and CloneDVD. Purchasing those two pieces of software has really made a difference for new releases. Sure it may cost more than what some people would like to pay. but at least your not spending 2 hours at ur pc trying to find a work around.

Ok, I have ripped Flightplan 2 ways now. This time i turned off AnyDVD in the background (it was the 1st good rip). This method uses all free programs. Used Dvd Decrypter 3.5.4.0 to extract files to HD in mode File F. Tried to open files with DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 and it gave me the first error. Shrink encountered Overlapped I/O operation in progress. Been there, seen that one before, so i went to shrink settings and un-checked enable overlapped I/O under the I/O tab. (i had turned it back on just to see if it would give me any errors, and this was the first error in months) Tried it again and got "invalid file or navigation structure" and then it listed vob 3. Took the files shrink tried to open and processed them with VOB Blanker 2.1.0.0 and it found unreferenced cells in VOB 3. That is what is stopping shrink and the other programs from working. AnyDVD takes care of that in the background. If you dont have AnyDVD, or it is not working for you, just use VOB Blanker. It looks like a difficult program, but all you need to do is supply the input folder (where you ripped the movie to) an output folder (where you want the processed files to go), and hit the Process tab on the bottom of the screen. It goes thru and finds the bad crap, removes it, and you don't have to know a thing about what it does, but it does it. Opened the VOB Blanker processed files, and shrink worked fine. You can get as detailed as you like with this program, or you can do like i do, and let it do its thing. Worked perfectly. That set of un-referenced cells in :
Quote:
VTS 03: Processing VOB (Titles)
--------------TITLE VOB PREPARING PHASE-
VTS 03: Keeping PGC 01
VTS 03: Keeping PGC 02
VTS 03: Keeping PGC 03
NOTE: Deleted 1 unreferenced cells (in the middle of the VOB)
from my quick glance of the log, it looks like that one quoted was the main thing stopping the transcoders. It is like they badly mastered the DVD so a copy of it wouldn't play if it tried to copy everything on the disc.
So, here's how to do it by not using AnyDVD or DVD43.
1. Rip files to HD with good old DVD Decrypter in mode File F.
2. Process files with VOB Blanker.
3, transcode and BURN baby BURN with program of choice after that!
VOB Blanker is free:
http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2100_exe.zip
DVD Decrypter is still out there on the web and free:
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/

Again, you don't have to know anything about all the little buttons and headings in VOB Blanker. Just supply input/output folders and hit process. It is that easy, or as my buddy alkohol says "Easy as sippin on a Corona".
Hope that helps.

I'm tearing my hair out over this one... and not much left.

OK... First I've got to know if all that are claiming success in burning this DVD have tried it in their home DVD players.

I've read all the posts and have tried all the so-called "successful" methods and a few of my own. So far, I've burned 6 DVD's that ALL play in my computer's DVD player perfectly, but none of them will play in my home DVD player. What's with that?

I've burned many DVD's in the past... some easy... some difficult. But I've always been able to get them to play in my home unit.

I've got all the latest versions of the software that have been mentioned in previous posts, but still, no success. I've also tried 3 different media types and all 3 have the same results.

Anyone else have any suggestions... other than buying the movie?

And here is the 3 buttons i was talking about in VOB Blanker. They are the only ones you need to know to get this to work.

I didn't change any setting in blanker or anything like that. Just used program as it was downloaded. I started to go thru individual cells on this movie, but realized i didn't know exactly what i was looking for, so i just went with my idiot proof method (input/output/GO), and it worked.

@MaxBurn

This is the method I used and yes that is the bad cell. After using VobBlanker there was no problem burning a backup. Usually I use AnyDVD but I like to still use the free programs just to see if they can keep up. They still work out well.

Could someone post the link to the Guides for the programs mentioned? I had it before but seemed to have lost the link.

Here is where to get VobBlanker. All you need to do is the three steps Maxburn listed.

Going to work on tonight, I like his three steps. Seems real easy. I just like having the guides so I can read up on it and not have to post questions that I can answer myself with the min. effort.

The jsoto site should have some guides listed. The three step approach is the easy way you can get more in depth. Search out some of Alkohol's guides, he goes further with the program :)

Edit: Here is Jsoto guide

Thanks. I found the link. Suddenly remembered I have it recorded on PDA. If VOB Blanker and shrinks, Nero can do it all alone that will be great. Seems easy after seeing the posts. Going to give it a crack tonight.

You can also rip the file with DVDFab Decrypter and then run it through VobBlanker and use Shrink or Nero Recode, I prefer Recode it is a lot less stressful on the CPU.

Running DVDFab Decrypter first to rip files to HD and then DVD Shrink in reauthor mode to just backup movie has never failed me yet for any of the latest movies.

Just one note to maybe some of the newer people. There is 2 Decrypter programs out there. The older one called DVD Decrypter works great and can do many things but is not being updated anymore. The new DVDFab Decrypter is updated when the need arises. IMO, the best one click program for getting past them hard to backup movies.
