help! problem with xilisoft 3gp video converter

I need help here. I once complained about this xilisoft converter, its avi files were crap, worse quality... but dvd->mpg compression was okay, since I need urgent to edit a video with premiere, np, used mpg.

But the compression is bad I guess... premiere won't open .avi files saying that compression isn't supported, and it crashes when I open the .mpg files... I thought that premiere could be faulty but no, I opened a regular video and and it was smooooooth... just won't work with this traumatic xilisoft conversions... anyone experienced the same problem? I need to edit a video from this dvd on my hd asap... anyone with more experience and goodwill to help me, I'd appreciate it

I could have misconfigured xilisoft 3gp conversions, dunno...
