i used Dvd Decryptor to rip along with anydvd and then used vob to process it, then I opened the video_ts folder with shrink. It will encode but it says it's still to big. Any programs that would give more control on what's on the dvd?

Things to try:

If you have nero, you can re-author the movie using the nero recode function.

If you haven't already done this, try using shrink in re-author mode and backup just the main movie.

Here's a guide:
http://www.jlathamsite.com/dvd/DVDShrink3.htm

Set shrink to output a custom file size of 4300MB (edit--preferences)

Change the compression setting to custom and adjust it youself, this sholud effect the file size.

You can also try processing the file(s) thru shrink a second time.

I tried this movie with just shrink first.
reauthor mode (movie only)
Nero said it was too big to burn.
I then ran it through Shrink again with the files it made from the first pass. Nero then burned it fine.

I then tried DvdFab. Ripped the movie to the hard drive and opened files with Shrink. Reauthor mode (movie only) and burned with Nero.

I haven't viewed the Shrink/Nero disc.
The DVDFab/Shrink/Nero disc played flawlessly in a standalone player.

I did it w/ Shrink alone and I don't remember anything special about it. But I kind of have a bad memory.

THere was nothing strange about this one for me. I used Shrink to compress it (I keep everything except for the unnecessary language tracks etc) and Decryptor to burn it. I set the target size at 4300mb and had no issues with it. Obviously, AnyDVD was running in the background.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I had no problem with Lord of War, used DVD43Free to get arounf the CSS and Regional cpyright protection, then used DVD Shrink to select only the main movie and the menu, and got it under 4.7GB
