The last several days I have used the LATEST version of AnyDVD and DVDshrink attempting to shrink "The Brothers Grimm" and "Flightplan".

Around 35% of the encoding, shrink will quit and bring up a "Out of Memory error." I have noticed that the buffer would reach above a gig and my Page file usage would top almost 2GB. System will severely lack in performance. I believe that these Movies no new encryption as we've seen in the past several months.

I then used anydvd and clonedvd and it had worked fine. I am not new to dvd-archival world. Not sure why this started to happen on shrink.

I too have had this happen to me in the last week or so. It occured on four different movies. I am also using the latest AnyDVD and shrink. I read somewhere that AnyDVD accidently coded their program (version 5.8.2.1) to actually enhance the protection features for certain titles, however a new version has been released and I'm still getting the out of memory deal as well as DVD Shrink program failure which kicks me out of shrink completely. Shrink is not totally screwed, just with certain movies. I noticed that the movies that give me the out of memory message I am still able to back up by re-authoring, but I lose everything but the main movie.
I am in no way new to backing up dvd's either and am a bit stumped why this is happening as well. Any info is appreciated.

The "Out of Memory error" message is more than likely due to an encryption issue.

The Brothers Grimm:
Make sure you have the latest version of anydvd , then use the Decrypter to shrink combo and you should be ok. Make sure that the backup is of the main movie only when using shrink(re-author mode), I personally would use nero recode to reauthor and shrink the files.

Flightplan:
This one is a little more work. Rip the dvd files to your hard drive using DVDFab, then process thru vobblanker, then open and transcode with shrink.

You may both want to try dvd region+css free. It works just like AnyDVD and it allows shrink or recode to work fine even with ripguard movies like Brothers Grimm and Flightplan.

Yeah I had that problem with The Brothers Grimm the new 'ripguard, encryption, copy prtection', a few ways to fix that the one I use most of the time now (kinda long, but oh well) rip the movies to your HD use DVDDecrypt, or whatever else you have, run those through VobBlanker, then run through DVDShrink, should work fine after that, but like I said just takes time too long for me =/
